every weekend i do a 200 mile round trip for the kids, 5 years ago when i first started doing this, it would cost me ~£25 and id have a small bit of petrol left. now im averaging~£48 to do the same trip, i stopped with 40 miles left to get home to get more petrol, this was in Tesco in culverhouse cross just outside of cardiff, and their diesel was

£1.49.4 a litre

its getting beyond a joke now

at the height of the fuel protests, it used to cost me ~ £40 to fill up my van (50l tank), whereas now it costs over £70 to fill the same sized tank, and the protests kicked off because of the price

americans are complaining on their news as some of them are paying $3.50 a gallon!!!

if a gallon is 5 litres (for easy maths) and we average 145p a litre, then thats £7.25 a gallon, which when converted to dollars, means we are paying nearly $12 a gallon, whereas the american gallon @ $3.50 is ~ £2.20, which is roughly 44p a litre

now, hows this for an idea

while OUR government, who is meant to work for, and listen to, US, is busy sending all our troops to everywhere else thats nothing to do with us, wait a few weeks so that the UK has NO military protection at home, then co-ordinate a full blown protest, block all the refineries, motorways, sea ports, air ports, hell, even block your local taxi rank

the police are tied up in too much red tape to do much about it, the military is everywhere else, and the government will sh!t a brick when the country stops

this crap in libya will be the perfect excuse to slam fuel up even more, and as usual, the UK will moan, then bend over and get shafted by its own government

UK citizens are slowly being taxed to death by the people who are meant to protect them, wheres our help going to come from?

its 1.48 down here, taking the p*ss a bit if u ask me?

regards fireblade.

i'v siad it before, Im up for causing a blockade some where. Everyeone else on the other hand isnt.

Not 1 to normally cause a fuss ... however fuel prices are now really taking the p@ss ...

Its about time ... that as a nation we make a stand ... enough is enough ...

@manx

How about if we all get together like other countries the government wil change and the price willbgo down YER right pmpl

The thing I have come to realise with the british... is they will moan, bitch, cry and show off... but they do fook all about it !!!

Follow the french's lead ffs ! bring the country to its knees !!

Fuel in the UK roughly mirrors the rest of the EU. I'm not saying it's cheap, just that we're not in isolation. The US government subsidise fossil fuels though tax breaks and other incentives, I'm not sure we do the same here?

For those in Cheshire and Merseyside: CHESTER GO SLOW AND FUEL PROTESTS - Facebook

I doubt Cameron will risk the early general election that some are predicting. It would likely only see another coalition government anyway. People haven't forgotten Labour's boom and bust economics, but cannot abide the Con-Dem's apparent impotence over the banks and bonuses...

little pob is spot on,as the govt seem to be more involved with other issues
the price of petrol is affecting the economy more than people realise, as most heavy goods drivers and businesses have noticed ,they are doing f%all to cap their profits
there more interested in using there tomahawk missiles against a nation who
are not worth the bother just to apepase the defence minister

The only problem with blockading refineries is that Tony B Liar covered that with the Terrorism act, so if you try to blockade a fuel terminal, squads of heavily armed police will escort you away.

digi, your maths are wrong, there's a fifth less in a septic gallon compared to the real gallon. They're really paying $4.20 a gallon ;)

Nothing will make the government u turn on vat on fuel... I blame the oil companies tbh they post massive profits and still the prices rise...

Its just like our gas and electric they post massive profits but still it keeps rising!!!

Now do you agree with us sending money to foreigners ???? ;)

Problem with VAT on fuel is, under EU law, they've only got 3 options; 0%, 6% or 20%...

The only way to beat the oil companies is to buy shares in them... as its looking like hydrogen will be the fuel of the future - and the oil co.s have the infrastructure already in place. Home electrolysis in sufficient enough quantities will either be cost prohibitive or illegal on grounds of "safety".

Well you say that.

However you dont see the goverment making a push for hydro cars, its buy electictic and all that shite!

1 Gallon = 4.5 litres @ £1.50 per litre thats £6.75 a gallon !!

This is a fcuking joke

Hydrogen cars are not commercially available - and the infrastructure isn't yet there either (there are some filling stations in the UK outfitted with hydrogen pumps). The government, or at least their advisers, are aware that oil is a finite source and has been seen as the excuse of the bulk of the wars over the last half century by the general public. As such they're trying to reduce our reliance on oil by trying to get people to adopt early.

veg oil 98p per litre £4.41 per gallon mmm may be time to go green!

If you want to spend £200k on a fuel cell version of a £14k petrol car or £26k (before government rebate) electric car then go ahead.

It's not up to the government to install hydrogen pumps at filling stations. Much like VED rates for cars <99g/km CO2 won't be 0 forever, you can guarantee they'll tax it in the future if H2 vehicles take off.

My point is - The govment should be doing more to encorage it. And you said the infristucation didnt exist. But it does. And it will get cheaper, if the govment encorage it and people by h2 cars - Theres nothing stopping the govment doing it - Just just dont want to.
