iPhone iphone 3 4.2.1

hello guys

my wife has an iphone 3g jaolbroke on 4.2.1 bc48 , my question is how do i update it and also re jailbreak it and also will she lose anything in the process like photos numbers anything like that?
the reason for doing this is some of the apps she uses now require updating the phone like whatsapp ect but she does not want to lose any ofher stuff she has on the phone......

please help...

Yes m8 all a jailbreak does is to allow better access to the firmware which you then can exploit,unfortunately apple stopped upgrades to the 3g @ 4.2.1

thanks for your reply , after doing some more reading it is correct that this phone is on the latest firmware and as you say apps like whatsapp will no longer work due to this......it seems only a few apps will not be supported so not all bad i suppose but it is time to replace it by the looks of things......

Does it use an earlier firmware as I've seen some when IOS5 came out they used 3.1.3 as the firmware etc
