iPhone iPhone 3GS locked to Vodafone iOS version 6 - Can I unlcok it?

Hi guys,

As the subject asks really. Im looking to unlock the misesesesesssss iphone which is a 3GS to work on Orange as its currently on Vodafone. Ive emailed Vody asking if they'll give me the code but havent heard anything back as yet. Ive read that sometimes it costs so in preparation that they do come back and say pay up or shut up, I thought Id ask here.

So - whats the chances of me unlocking it? Cheers!!

You will need an unlockable baseband, I would suggest updating the baseband to the iPads baseband and then down grade it using redsn0w

Ive used the idetector and it says the phone has a new baseband - does this matter? As Ive also read it can brick your phone?? Thanks!

You can't unlock your baseband
Depending when the phone was made you could update the baseband to 06.15.00 (ipad baseband) then downgrade it to
05.13.04 which is unlockable

You can do this using this version of redsn0w: https://sites.google.com/a/iphone-dev.com/files/home/redsn0w_win_0.9.14b2.zip?attredirects=0&d=1

Follow the instructions to update it to the iPad baseband.
Check the week and year the phone was made, redsn0w will show you how to do that before you update it.

If you can up/downgrade , then jailbreak it, but remember the iOS 6 jailbreak is only tethered at the moment
Which means you will need redsn0w to boot your phone each time it's powered off.

If your phone was made at certain time , I think it was week 34 year 2011 or after you can't install the iPad baseband
You check by looking at your serial number, this will explain how : Redsn0w 0.9.14b2 Brings Improved iPad Baseband (06:15:00) Downgrade; Adds Ability to Put iOS Device in DFU Mode

Redsnow will warn you to check before you continue

Im now deep in the brown stuff... Im trying to restore the custom firmware and I get the error 3194 - to which I change my host file to 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
and all is supposed to be fine. But I keep getting this error. Can onyone help me before I confess to the misses Ive fooked her phone?! Thanks

Restore the custom firmware?
If you want to unlock you should just be sorting the baseband and jailbreaking it
You can use Redsnow to do both without restoring the phone

This is what I followed -How to Install 06.15.00 iPad baseband on iPhone 3G/3GS and every time I try and install the custom firmware which this guide built it complains about 3194 :S

ok lets start from the beggining

as your on ios6 and want to unlock it your going to have to use the tethered jailbreak and ultrasnow to unlock it.

but first you need a baseband you can unlock.
so you need to concentrate on the baseband.

grab redsn0w from post 5
first upgrade the baseband to the ipads baseband (making sure your phone is compatible with the year and week it was made) to install the ipad baseband just tick "install ipad baseband" from the resn0w menu
you can unlock the phone with the ipad baseband but you will lose your gps

so i recommend you downgrade it to 05.13.04 : Redsn0w 0.9.14b2 Brings Improved iPad Baseband (06:15:00) Downgrade; Adds Ability to Put iOS Device in DFU Mode

once its downgraded to 05.13.04 you then jailbreak it using this version of redsn0w: https://sites.google.com/a/iphone-dev.com/files/home/redsn0w_win_0.9.13dev4.zip?attredirects=0&d=1

then install ultrasn0w and the fix http://www.redmondpie.com/unlock-ios-6-on-iphone-4-and-iphone-3gs-using-ultrasn0w-fixer/ and the phone should be unlocked

remember the ios6 is a tethered jailbreak, you will need redsn0w to boot the phone if its ever turned off.
unless the phone has been jailbroke on a earlier version and the shsh blobs saved its your only option.

So I spoke too soon matey, I dont seem to have the cydia icon on the phone. And its on baseband 05.13.04 - is this right?

baseband is right. thats the hard part lol.
did you jailbreak it? just doing the baseband wont jailbreak it.

get the version of redsn0w from post 14.
this time choose the jailbreak and "install cydia" options.

ive just replied your pm on how to install ultrasn0w.
each time the phone is turned off tho you will need your pc or laptop with redsn0w to turn it back on, you just run redsn0w and choose "just boot tethered now"
hopefully there will be an untethered jailbreak released soon so you wont have to do this.

edit: run redsn0w as administrator

sorry only just realised the ios6 version of resn0w doesnt install cydia yet (because ive never used it)
