I am a current owner of a TM-5402HD receiver. I have followed much advice on here onto which patch to use so I'm currently using patch 117p as per a thread from Zorch (thanks Zorch) as this seems to be the best for my requirements.

On the fear of causing mayhem (lol)

I'd like to put a slightly different perspective on the way we request and see if TM listens to its bloodline! (us the consumer)

I would like to pose the question to all you guys.. to see if we can compile a realistic list as to what would we like to be fixed on future release of firmware / patch?

Questions like: What the TM is capable of which it doesn't do currently (but has done) or correctly?

If we keep this real we maybe able to come up with something of substance.

Nice idea mate, but nobody is listening. We've asked for all kinds of simple things to be fixed, and Technomate or their suppliers/engineers have not been able to fix the most basic requests so far.
They can't even issue patches with change logs for heavens sake.

Personally, I can't waste any more energy on this receiver for anything other than basic TV viewing. It will be a great little HD box for the bedroom shortly.
The hardware had the potential to be a good bit of satellite enthusiasts equipment, let down by very weak software and updates. May she rest in peace showing Saturday Kitchen and the 10 minute freeview.

I think my next purchase will definitely be open source.

I no longer fit technomate receivers for people who want 'extras' from receivers. For those with their own cards or who only want FTV foreign channels etc i still use them, but for people who like to tinker, untill the support gets back to at least 75% of how good it used to be, in my opinion, they are no longer at the top of the list for patches etc

netRe: What would we like from TM / Phant0m in next patch

As someone who spent all his working life in the computer business I also would like to rephrase the question - When are TM going to get a grip of the situation, for if not why should anyone continue to buy their products

I have never been clear as to whether their products are pure clones ( that is clone hardware and clone software) or their own intellectual property. If the former is the case, then all they are able to do is issue patches which are bound to divert from the original release (wherever it came from), so that any updates coming from the property owner are not seen by us the poor clients

IMO opinion the whole business of software issuing and patching by TM is abominable, lacking structure, quality and regularity. There are a variety of models of fairly recent vintage, but errors occurring in more than one machine are not corrected by a reissue of all relevant software

I dont know if Phant0m works for TM or not, but if he does, is his work officially supported or just carried out in his spare time. From comments in this blog I would suspect the latter - in which case we will limp along with TM problems until we (and Phant0m) give up and go elsewhere

When I bought my 6800 originally, I was impressed by its easy to use interface compared with the previous box I owned, which had been very clumsy, and I have followed blogs here and elsewhere looking for signs that new boxes were up to the same standard - conclusion NO

The world of TV and Internet has moved on , and I read, with interest, a discussion which said that we should not be buying Smart TVs (for the same reason which said that TVs with built in video/DVD players put all our investment in a single box, and when one component failed effectively the whole TV system was devalued). http://www.digitalworldz.co.uk/images/smilies/fright.gif

It went on to suggest that sophisticated decoders (with integrated lan/internet/wifi connections) should be the servers of the future. Clearly some of you guys had decided that the 5402 is such a solution - but judging by the saga you are going through, these later TM products are not good enough. http://www.digitalworldz.co.uk/images/smilies/grayno.gif

Sorry to sound off, but it getting to that stage http://www.digitalworldz.co.uk/images/smilies/angryfire.gif

Re: netRe: What would we like from TM / Phant0m in next patch

I totally agree with osbald16.

As I elaberate on my original post what I feel is we should compile a structured list to get TM to rectify what they advertise and claim it to do (e.g blindscan .. but correctly seeking all available tp's for 1). The way they steer the firmware to enable it to do but still fail. Patching etc must be the afterthought to pin-on from a good foundation.

Better still if Phant0m could crack all of this including the unlocked features ... :champion:

If all fails... the worst thing that happen's is at least we told them so before we all start to migrate!

I already am using an outdated firmware version as it does seem best suited (stable) to my needs with thanks to this forums expertise but it still ain't as it should be! Logic tells us that the latest version or maybe 1 behind should be the best (they are allowed a boobie every now and again lol) , however, in TM's case they don't seem to be even close. TM seem to be defying the evolution of their releases of firmware.
(this is just my opinion of course)

Kindest Regards

As per osbald16 maybe they could be a clone or vice-versa,,,,,,,, this poses the question I guess even going back a few years Settings e Downloads - Digital-Sat Magazine

Look at some of the versions from about a 1/4 of the page down.

Only problem with all this mate - and I totally agree with your sentiments here - is that Phantom (IF he even exists) has already started at least THREE threads of his OWN asking us all to provide him with both feedback to 'his' attempts at patches - as well as what we'd LIKE to include - and look where its all got us -SO FAR!!
I agree with other posters in this thread, i.e. what on earth do Technomate really EXPECT to come of all their current incompetencies etc, when their sales MUST have plummeted, with a dramatic loss in trust and belief?
TM sell SUCH excellent receivers, but again as has already been noted, what good is excellence in HARDWARE without equal excellence in SOFTWARE?:BLOBBY:

A definitive list of fixes is still our greatest hope, alternatively we just sit, wait and hope TM may just pull their finger out ... Last resort we all spread our wings and migrate (already happening)

Re: netRe: What would we like from TM / Phant0m in next patch

Hi again all,

This thread is developing into a very good discussion...

Myself personally... I am not really interested in the online features of the O/S or the patches... and it wouldn't bother me one jot if any of the following (in the list below) were not included in the O/S or the patches... although most Technomate owners on this forum would probably disagree with me here... but it's just personal preferences...

Games
Calculator
Calendar
YouTube
Online Weather
Online Maps
Internet Radio

However... I have always really enjoyed the added bonus of having the EMU/Softcam added to the patches... thus enabling the viewing of channels which would not ordinarily be accessible... but all of what the O/S and patches try to achieve falls down flat if the basic principles of what a satellite receiver is supposed to do is not respected... to accurately find/successfully receive and ultimately store all obtainable satellite transponder signals (dish size withstanding).

Don't get me wrong... I'm all for innovation... but a lot of the features listed above are not exactly satellite receiver related are they...? ...they belong more on an 'Internet Entertainment Centre'... I would be more interested in seeing proper satellite features... the addition of a good 'Spectrum Analyzer' and a sophisticated/accurate 'Blind Search' scanner... also the capability to decode MPEG-4 (4:2:2 codec) signals and also the reception/decoding of DVB-S2 16APSK/32APSK/ACM signals...

NB
The decoding of MPEG-4 (4:2:2 codec) signals and the reception/decoding of DVB-S2 16APSK/32APSK/ACM signals could only be achieved by new hardware... therefore a new receiver... perhaps there's a TM 5502 HD on the horizon... Shhhhhh!!

I believe that the emphasis on online features in the O/S and patches is now becoming more and more important to the manufacturers/engineers and programmers than the original basic functions of a satellite receiver... the basics now seem to have been given a back seat... the day is coming where the following phrase will be stated... "oh, and it's also a satellite receiver as well"

Best Wishes,
Zorch

Re: netRe: What would we like from TM / Phant0m in next patch

Agree with Zorch
have no interest in any of these on the his list, I have already relegated my TM to the bedroom and went opensource with an Xcruiser and have already sold my other TM a few months back.

Everything that has been said by all is true but we have already been down the road of supplying lists of what we would like to see, as the saying goes been there done that. Sorry TM will not be buying ant more TM boxes.

Re: netRe: What would we like from TM / Phant0m in next patch

@Digi, Same situation here. Good for original sub and recording. But that's it 4 now.... Tm You were the best but you lack innovation at this very moment.

Thanks Zorch - talk about barefaced cheek eh - they really DO have a nerve!
Dont they realise how disillousioned the very people who are likely to be considering buying their products actually are nowadays?
Come on Technomate - either pull your fingers out or pack it all in and retire right now UN-gracefully! lol!!!:fishpair:

That second quote has been ripped from googles owns pages on their philosophy.

What Sevansys.com (who?) values page has to say about Integrity
Being ethically unyielding and honest and inspiring trust by saying what we mean, matching our behaviors to our words and taking responsibility for our actions.

What Technomate say about integrity

I guess Sevansys may have nicked the line from Technomate, but....

What Google inc say about 'Great isn't good enough'
We see being great at something as a starting point, not an endpoint. We set ourselves goals we know we can’t reach yet, because we know that by stretching to meet them we can get further than we expected. Through innovation and iteration, we aim to take things that work well and improve upon them in unexpected ways.

What Technomate say about Innovation.

How incredibly sad that Technomate has demonstrated no integrity or innovation on their values page. Doesn't exactly inspire confidence in their products does it.

I would like to edit sat positions in sat list via stb

Re: netRe: What would we like from TM / Phant0m in next patch

I would like Technomate to go bankrupt and lose all of the money that they conned out of mug customers.

I would like Technomate to go bankrupt and lose all of the money that they conned out of mug customers.

Unfortunately that is not how bankruptcy works

It is the staff who suffer first, and quite often the management of other companies have taken their profits out before declaring themselves bankrupt
