Technomate will be sending out the USB adaptors today to those who have requested one and provided the details required to get one for free, i was shocked at the amount of people who claimed one

attached are a few pics sent to me on fitting the drive internally and plugging it into the rear socket. personally though, i would (while the lid is off) unscrew the FRONT socket from the rear, and plug into this

Typical, don't need it now as my drive works fine

How many people asked for them

if you took a guess at half a dozen, you wouldnt be far off the figure m8 lol

which is a good thing really i suppose, as it shows that OWNERS are ok with it

Fair play to technomate tho' although to be fair I have emailed them to tell them to keep mine as and save there postage money as mine has not dropped a beat since the IQ.

Also may be worth nothing that when I had my big rant last friday about the new IQ image and the blinking box kept freezing with the cogs.

I then came back and said nothing had changed but since then everything that is said to work on the image doe's without any fault

I think there was a unintentional little white lie, because until the time I was about to stamp on the little black box I never switched it off as said in the install guide.

Obviously on the saturday when I calmed down a bit I switched it back on and give it another try everything was fine

So I am thinking I could have been to cause of my own problem, so I would like to apoligise for that

Hey,

I've been out of things for a while, looking for a car, which I need to commute to my new job, which I'm starting in about a week, only three short weeks after I left my job at the multinational that was slowly taking over my life, thanks for asking. :)

So, what exactly is this USB adapter for? Should I remove the internal HDD, which works great, and stick something in the rear USB?

The link from Digi comes back with an error. Is that just me?

Cheers!

the site is un n down at the mo m8 due to upgrades going on.

some people have had problems with internal drives, it seems to affect certain makes and bigger drives, ive only had one or 2 probs with a 120G hitachi, but its now fine

but if you have a 500G WD or something like that, they seem to mess about on SATA but are perfect by USB, so TM have bought in USB-SATA adaptors for those with problems as a temp work around

even if UR team have made a royal balls up of everything, the actual customer service from technomate themselfs cannot be faulted

if your drive works fine mate, you wont need an adaptor.

Digi has put some pictures of the usb>sata install guide

this little gadget would be useful for formatting the hard drive on your PC.... not that your gonna change it every other day

Got my usb adaptor from tm today and I want to thank them for that however my wd drive still doesn't work. I thought wd sata drives were supposed to be ok with the adaptor or did i get that wrong and I will have to wait for a proper fix?

I've received mine today. It is not the same one as the one in the pictures.

Rather than squash the cable between the casing, I took out the serial port and passed the cable through the hole. This setup was not maintained owing to reasons below.

The one I have two USB connectors on the PC end just in case the power is not enough from one port. (It is working fine connected to the one port.) The HDD end has a full sized USB A connector and it is on the left hand side. The cable hits the PSU heat sink and owing to the heat I won't be fitting it normally. Turning it upside down so that the port is away from the heatsink means that you cannot fix the screws into the HDD. I tried connecting it facing the the way round so that the port was below the card reader. Unfortunately the card reader exerts pressure on it and I'm not too happy with that setup.

I've decided to leave it outside. I am glad that they have supplied the velcro. The enclosure casing is silver, the STB is black.

I shall try to remain on the positive side, I can now record.

I got the same one. Just left it external for now aswell. I formatted the hdd a few more times and it is recording ok now but ff and rw are dodgy. What size of disk do you have? Mine is 500gb.

I would advise everyone to stay away from wd hard drives then . Really hit and miss. Sometimes recognised, sometimes not. Sometimes records, sometimes doesn't, sometimes you can ff sometimes you cant but usually just spinning cogs. Usb adaptor not working for wd. At least not form mine.

yeah ive a wd hdd installed by technomate and i got the adaptor and it doesnt work either !!

Got it sorted. Wasn't the hard drive that was the problem, it was a dodgy adaptor. Called TM and they said I could pop down so they could sort the problem out. Went down today and was really impressed by their customer service. They sorted my problem out and more. If anyone has any problem with their hard drive or anything else I would strongly advise to get in contact with them. I was taken round the back and shown exactly what they were doing and had a long chat with everything explained. Really impressed. Jesus I'm beginning to sound like an employee. Seriously though if you have any problems just give them a call or pop down. I know I've gone off the thread a little but my hard drive now works well.

Technomates customer support has always been excellent, their main issue is with (was with) the UR team and the support of the TM800

but, playing with the latest image, a LOT of improvements have been made over the last 2 weeks

With the lack of moaning over last couple of days, think TM are finally getting close to final image - and yes as said I said before, have a word with them if you have problems on IQ images that is not stated.

in a few weeks I hope we start seeing some praise TM threads - because as long as we have they have stuck with it

Just to add, I hope "Joe the Public" give us members some praise, I know they wont because they dont know were here

but if TM contiue the improvements there going to have a killer box selling at a bargain price, and it will be thanks to our moans and demands.

So for the small % of us! I am asking TM to give us the forthcoming replacement model for free ..... when ever that may be (Ok wishful thinking)
