I have just JB my 3gs from orange, and seem to remember reading somewhere that you can set a custom SMS sound once its JB.

So how do I do it. lol

You need to convert it to .aiff format, then connect with the likes of WinSCP, rename the file you converted to one of the stock ones, there are 6 of them named

sms-received1.caf to sms-received6.caf

btw...when you connect with WinSCP, the folder the files are in is.

System/Library/Audio/UIsounds

No tut for you m8...sorry. I just googled WinSCP and installed it. I will make this up as I go along...lol

Connect iphone to pc and open Winscp. start a new session. username is root and password is alpine.

You also have to have Openssh activated on the iphone, if not already done you can get that from cydia or installious.

just convert the ringtone and rename it as stated in earlier post and pop it in the correct place overwriting the original.

I used Switch Audio converter for converting to .aiff format. Just shout if you need it.

Even if I converted it, you still need to get it on the iphone with WinSCP or similar. The psp is more complicated, doing this is a piece of pi$$......honest.

I do it the same way as above, although i just use itunes to convert to .aiff which saves having more software. You need WinSCP though, because thats useful for transferring everything by filesystem. I use it to transfer apps, since i download via pc as its quicker/easier.
I would agree its not difficult, and for sure it makes sense to have a go and learn how much you can do with these phones. :)

Cydia/search type openssh and if there is a tick at it then its installed, if not then click on it and install it.

No probs m8, you have helped me plenty of times.

Pink is showing offline but I don't think he will mind me answering it.

From apple

To convert a song's file format:

  1. Open iTunes Preferences.
    Windows: Choose Edit > Preferences.
    Mac: Choose iTunes > Preferences.
  2. Click the General button, then click the Importing Settings button in the second section of the window.
  3. From the Import Using pop-up menu, choose the encoding format that you want to convert the song to, then click OK to save the settings.
  4. Select one or more songs in your library, then from the Advanced menu, choose one of the following (The menu item changes to show what's selected in your Importing preferences):
    • Create MP3 version
    • Create AAC version
    • Create AIFF version
    • Create WAV version
    • Create Apple Lossless version

btw...make sure you change your import setting back after using it.

Thanks again Jaffa mate.

And I think I will stick with the other program, less configuration changes and stuff. But thanks again.

I have actually done this, you need to add the IP of the phone, before you can SFTP to it.

Here is a really good guide on it all. But thanks again Jaffa.
