The TM600 has 3 USB sockets, one of these is internal, and after playing with lots of different drive and adaptor mixtures ive found that SATA drives seem to be the best, so thought id make a small shopping list for others who want to try

this list DOES NOT include the actual hard drive, ive tried this with an old 300G out of a broken sky+HD receiver and a smaller 120G laptop drive (shown)

a lot of 3.5" SATA drives have a molex power connector as well as a SATA power connector, if the drive you choose to use has this, then you will not need the molex-SATA power adaptor cable listed below

The equipment, links and prices, all prices include delivery.

the USB2.0 - SATA adaptor, works perfectly with the TM600
DealExtreme: $7.31 Mini USB 2.0 to SATA Dongle
$7.31

SATA data cable to connect your HDD to the adaptor
DealExtreme: $1.24 SATA Cable (0.4-Meter)
$1.24

Molex-SATA power adaptor, if you are using a 2.5" HDD or if your 3.5" drive only has a SATA power connection, youll also need one of these
DealExtreme: $1.19 SATA Power Cable
$1.19

Fit everything with the power off, then format the drive and reboot the receiver, set USB3 to the default drive for PVR recordings, and away you go :)

just paid 15 quid for the same thing however u get a shit load of goodies with it trouble is my 320gig is full of movies and I am dying to try a sata drive with it. I have tried 4 ide drives in it so far and all work.

Thanks for your work didgiguide it is well appreciated

PS smargo any chance of having another go

ive had a faulty sky+HD 300G hard drive here for a while, when its in a sly receiver, it causes the receiver to be stuck in standby, so today just before sending it to the big computer part recycling plant in the sky (via the wheely bin) i thought id try it in the TM600

now, instead of an old 120G laptop drive in there, ive got a 300G jobby instead :proud:

Do you think that there is a need for any cooling (fan) for when fitting a hdd internally into the TM600?

If you've taken the drive you've got now from a S k y HD box (which has 1 fan directly cooling the hdd + another psu fan), wouldn't it be best to use a fan in the TM box?
