Just started downloading on Newsgroups and have noticed my speed has been capped to 2.5mb, I am on 10mb broadband and only started downloading at 9:50, not done any downloading for a few days never mind a few hours so was just wondering if they have changed their times, as I used to start my downloads at 9pm but now it seems I have been capped :(

You shouldn't be capped pal, none of the trials even go past 9pm now (unless you were throttled before that and continue with the 5 hours).

So if you started after 9 you should be full speed all night now.

Perhaps someone is cloning your MAC and hammering the account.

Strange because I got capped last week and didnt start download until 9:20 pm, haven't seen it happening like that before or since so maybe just a cock up by them.

A clone shouldn't affect it as it will be on a different UBR.

Some idiots on another forum that shall not be mentioned, seem to be using MAC's from their same UBR to keep online. (Some places don't seem to have MAC conflict so it seems...)

Well in that case something is very wrong.

I clone a few MACS from different UBRs, yet sometimes I get capped within minutes of downloading for the 1st time that day. I have always assumed the reason behind this is that the original owner of the MAC has almost reached his/her limit.

.... You could just "reset" the cap, lol.

Well I do. :)

But that doesn't explain why my connections are sometimes capped within minutes of connections.

I reset caps on average 4 times day ;)

There's always a few idiots that either dont bother to learn about what they are doing or simply dont care about the consequences to others.

Just been fookin capped again only started downloading 20 minutes ago and it is off peak so why am I capped?? Is there anything I can do to change it or not? Very pished off at the minute, might try virgin newsgroups see if it is a problem with Astraweb but cannot see why when I have been downloading at 10mb for the last 20 minutes and now BANG

Preston-A trial area still runs till 10pm

Ditto mine runs from 10am - 10pm in two groups 10am-3pm I can download 2.4Gb or something and 4pm-10pm I can grab 1.4GB.

It does make me laugh about the increased number of posts seen on various forums from people complaining that VM speeds are slow and are being capped unfairly and before anyone takes this personal it isn't aimed at anyone and is just an observation on my part...

I think we all need to remember why we joined this forum and with the amount of people out there stealing 20/50 meg bandwidth not to mention the greedy fookers that use more than one cloned modem at a time , its a wonder their network can manage a service at all...

I think in this case our success is one of the causes and if it wasn't for that their network would be pretty shit hot .......

IMO the network is shit hot anyway :)

I doubt whether I'd be saying that though if I paid for it.
