i have been asked to flash a MS28 drive, the owner has made a backup of original bin file, but when attempted to write hacked f/w back, it crashed for some reason.

i have this drive in my possesion, and have a copy of the orig bin file with correct key in it, and a copy of teh hacked bin file with same key in it.

but this damn drive will not eject, won't eject in 360 or with connectivity kit.

i have used iprep, and copied the ofw.bin to the 1234567 12345 folders, and typed in iprep: rsam 1234567 12345

follow all on screen instructions, till i get to 3 ixtreme, i turn off 360 press 3, count to 10, turn on 360, nothing.

i have done 50 + sammys, and this is the only one that won't eject or read or flash etc....

i have tried 9 secs, 10 secs, up to 16 secs.

any ideas anyone.

good news is i have the orig.bin file, so i am sure it can be fixed.

Sounds like its gonna be a pain in th ar*e mate. Its only an idea and I dare say you may have already tried but does the drive sound like its atleast trying to eject when you press the eject button? I've come across a few sammys that appear as if they wont open but I could hear the mechanisms trying to open the tray when the eject button was pressed...you'll probably laugh at this but if it is sounding like its atleast trying to open just give the drive tray a quick bang with your finger(and not as hard as you probably do with the penguins mate ;) lol). I'm not saying it is the same problem you have but like I say I've come across a few like this before and this tricked worked for me on all of them :) dont know what causes it? maybe dusty dried out mechanism but like I say its just an idea mate.

If the drive firmware is corrupted then you will need to reflash the TSOP.

Or get a new drive and flash the hacked BIN onto it.

no sound as if it is trying to eject.

i have used the paperclip method to open it, and nudged it to close, but nothing, no power to take it from me.

never done a TSOP, so wouldn't know where to start.

I've had a few MS28's that won't eject and found replacing the eject drive belt fixed them. the belts are easy to get from local tv/video repair shops cost about £1.80

You posted just before me lol. Have you got a spare ms25 or 28 logic board about? if so swap it over and try ejecting them. If that works you need to remove and flash the tsop as said above. I'm sure one of the guys here can reflash the tsop for you if not one of the cable guys should have a willem or labtool programmer.

drive band is in tact, i can see it moving when i manually push the drive open/close

like i said, never done a TSOP, so i won't be touching that.

no spares either.

It may not just be the tsop and they are a pig to lift as well on a samsung, the EliteMT chip can get currupt as this is memory and then you are stuffed it just better to get a new drive and save the laser from it.

The drive will be bricked if there has been an interrupted flash write on it. I've had this before when writing from a floppy disk from DOS and the disk screwed up mid flash. There is a way round it though. You need to carry out the 10 second trick (as normal) but when you first boot you need to attach a different working drive. I used an early Hitachi 47DJ and it was fine. Only difference is during the 10 second "pause" you need to swap the hitachi drive for the Samsung, power the samsung on and the computer thinks it's still the Hitachi and writes the image to it.

HTH

The old hot swap trick... a very good one to remember :)

i have a sammy drive that has knackered laser, i might try the trick with this then, cheers, and i will keep you guys posted how i get on.

Yeah knackered drives work fine mate, the hitachi I used had a dead laser. As long as it can detect the drive and the flash is intact on it, you should be fine.

@ trbd, just tried your method, and drive started smoking, and pc blew a fuse.........

joking m8, your method worked a treat, i did the rsam 1234567 12345 method with knackered drive, and within the 10 secs period, i swapped sata and power with the non eject drive, and presto, all restored, and re-flashed.

rep given to you m8, many thanks.

and cossiedavyd said thanks too, it's his drive.
