In between Bro and Mairyhinge. Hold that thought..
Hi folks.
I've got a few quid burning a hole in my pocket and want a laptop.
Every time I look at different ones, I want to "up the spec" and end up looking in awe at the high end ones lol
I'm probably looking at spending around £600 on one.
Probably the most tasking thing I would want it to do is connect it to my mini dv camcorder and transfer/edit video footage.
A dvd writer would be nice to record edited clips etc.
I like the widescreen format ones too.

Do any of you have any recomendations or know of any good offers at the moment ????

Thanx

We use Dell at work. They do good deals and they are good with the warranty, when they say they will come next day, they come next day.

Dell does do some nice Lappys, they are good looking too.

Personally if I wanted it for editing videos, I would definetly be looking for a Core 2 Duo processor, preferrably the highest spec one you can afford, if you can try and get a T7200 proceesor but if that goes over your budget get the T5600 processor.

Are Core 2 Duos 64 bit?

Anyway, yeah you want a core 2 duo, and I would say 2GB of Ram if you can afford it. You will need it.

Also, get Vista Home Premium. People say it's crap now, but, people said XP was crap, and now everyone uses it, so, the same will happen with Vista. You don't wanna have to pay for Vista in a years time when you can get it free now.

As for which brand, I would say Sony, Apple (expensive though), Dell can be good, and my sister has a Acer and it is cheap and good.

Apparently Core 2 Duos are EM64T so can handle 64bit applications (e.g. x64 flavours of Windows) but are technically only 32bit processors with 64bit extensions (much like the AMD 64s are).

Hi again peeps.
I've rekindled my thread from last week to update you on my progress.
It turns out I get 5% discount from Dell via work. Not a lot, I know, but a penny saved is a penny earned !!!!
I've been on their site and "built my Dell" and have taken your advice from the replys and upgraded certain bits.
This is the spec and is due to arrive at the end of the month;-

Dell Inspiron 6400

Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 Processor (2.0 GHz, 667 MHz, 4MB L2 cache)

Vista Home Premium

15.4” UltraSharp Wide screen LCD WXGA+ (1440 x 900)

2048 MB 667 MHz Dual Channel DDR 2 (2 x 1024)

160GB SATA (5400rpm)

Intel Media Accelerator 950 Graphics with up to 256MB shared graphics memory

8X DVD +/-RW drive

9 cell Lithium – Ion Battery (85WR)

Intel pro wireless 802.11 a/b/g

Dell TrueMobile 355 Bluetooth card

It also has 4 usb2 and firewire socket, which is how my camcorder connects.
Should be a nice bit of kit. I can't wait for it now lol.

Cost me a tad over £800 so blown my budget too !!! :)

Thanx again to those who advised me.
