Dreambox 600PVR Flashing Guide.....

This guide takes into account that you know how to use FTP and TELNET software and also that you know how to use a web browser such as internet explorer.....if you don't know how to use any of these tools please stop now and get someone who does to flash your dreambox. This guide also will show you how to flash the dreambox very fast using a web browser instead of using dreamup.

Firstly this guide assumes you have the dreambox default image on your dreambox and also the dreambox is connected to a router (you will need the dhcp server on the router turned on to give the dreambox an IP address).

OK make sure your dreambox, router and pc are turned on - go into the router settings to make sure DHCP is turned on, then start the dreambox - goto MENU/SETUP/Expert setup and look at the settings that show the dreambox IP address...this will probably look like 192.168.xxx.xxx - you will need to write this number down. If the number starts with 10.xxx.xxx.xxx - dhcp is not turned on and your dreambox does not have an ip from the router - STOP NOW!!!

OK you have the IP address - so lets get started....

You will need the following files...the image(pli-henelite) and the extra files(cams/keys/services/cables.xml and a few others). The services and boquets included are for east central scotland, you can replace these with your own if you are in a different area.

Here you go then...

The image
Code:
You don't have permission to view the code content. Log in or register now.

The Extra Files
Code:
You don't have permission to view the code content. Log in or register now.

Good shit, you now have everything you need and should be watching TV in around 10 minutes time.

Firstly we are gonna corrupt the bootloader so we can flash via a web browser - rather than dreamup as this is much, much, much faster and only takes about 3 minutes instead of half an hour. We will need to telnet into the dreambox to do this.

Imagine the dreambox ip address is/was 192.168.1.147

open command promp and type "telnet 192.168.1.147" - the login is - root

copy and paste the following commands into the command prompt box after you have logged in to the dreambox.

Code:
You don't have permission to view the code content. Log in or register now.

Now the dreambox will reboot - once rebooted the dreambox won't come on.

Open up internet explorer and type in the address bar 192.168.1.147 (you DB IP address)
When the web browser page loads - you should select "flash new firmware"
browse to the pli-henelite image you downloaded and flash that image...it will take around 2-3 minutes. Once the image is flashed turn the dreambox off at the wall and then back on - the dreambox will now boot up into the new image....now for the fun bit....the dreambox will take a few minutes to boot and eventually show a screen TV SYSTEM WIZARD...change these settings to what you require then press the green button on the remote control to save. Select your language and then press ok, then select the timezone you require..once again save by pressing the green button.
At this point ignore the transponder scan as we are not going to scan for channels as I have already attatched some in the extra files you downloaded. Just press EXIT on the remote control, then exit again.

Now we are gonna ftp the extra files I posted to the root of the dreambox.

Ftp 192.168.1.147 port 21 - username root, password dreambox

ftp the etc and usr dirs over to the dreambox root dir - overwrite everything if prompted.

chmod 755 the following

usr/keys/everything in here
usr/bin/evocamd+mgcamd

close the ftp manager now..we don't need it anymore.

Next we are gonna telnet back into the dreambox....as before telnet 192.168.1.147 - login - root

paste this command:

Code:
You don't have permission to view the code content. Log in or register now.
exit telnet

Open internet explorer or your default web browser and type this in the address bar:

Code:
You don't have permission to view the code content. Log in or register now.

Now get the dreambox remote contorl and press MENU/SHUTDOWN/RESTART ENIGMA

Once enigma resarts your screen will still be black....press the blue button on the remote
Select Softcam Setup
Select Default Softcam and change it to evocamd 2.14 then press green to save and start the cam

If everything went well - you should be clearing decrypted channels.

Next press MENU/SETUP/HARDWARE SETTINGS/REMOTE CONTROL/ - where it says default enigma - change it to classic neutrino - then green to save.
Press exit
Press System Settings/User interface settings/OSD options/ where is says enable fast zapping - click this so the green arrow dissapears - press exit thress times and select shutdown/restart enigma.

That's all folks....happy viewing.

You get the ip address from the routers logs....if not use dreamup to reflash - follow instructions in future.

shite... that was my problem, i had dhcp off, i assumed that it would pick the static one..

can i use dreamup to flash the gemini image

Yes, just uncheck the 'use network' box and use a null modem cable.

Use a proven image - such as the pli helenite image I posted.

mrdude thanks for the guide...

I'm sure I'm not the only dumbass that though the DHCP warning was something that could be ignored at least now in future people reading this thread will learn from the dumbass (me) that went before them

Thanks again

I successfully followed these steps to flash with Mr Dudes Newbie Image.

You say in instructions, that this works when using Dream's defauilt image is installed.

If I want to try a different image to existing Mr Dudes Image, cna I follow the very same instructions (i.e. when correupting the boot loader, will I still get the option for flashing image via web browser?)

cheers

Yes you can use the same instructions for flashing a different image. Why not try the Pli Helenite image from the Pli site?

what would the main benefits/differences of the different images, as having no problems with this one?

All images generally work but different images have different strenghts. I prefer the now and next in the Infobar and for that I have to use mrudes or the Pli image. I also found that if I want to watch my tv through the pc with the VLC client than mrdude was much better for that any other image. Wibzit77 than discovered the 'Longer EPG ' with the Pli image which is very handy for recording on the DM600 so I have now swapped over to pli image though I much prefer mrdudes image. It is all a matter of personal discovery and choice.

what's the connection like when watching on a pc.

I've gt a home network set-up (wireless), wondering is it easy to set-up.

I see the VLC button on the dreambox browser page.

Is it simply install VLC and click the button?

Think I tried that before, but wouldn't work.

You would be better off starting a new thread m8 as this is a sticky for flashing a dreambox.

How would i upgrade the image of the box, I followed the above tutorial and very big thanks

But i want to get some guidance on this before jumping in.

I want to update the PLI image and i understand this will also update the emu too. The reason for this is to try and reduce the problems i am currently getting on some channels.

Where i get a frozen image or distorted. It happen a lot today but when it does the 'ber' on the information bar shoots up to 100+ then drops and its fine again.

I was just wondering if installing a new image which will update the emu to would help solve this problem.

Should i just follow this thread or do i need to do more changes.

Sorry for asking noob stuff, i am trying to understand how these systems work.

New images do not have cams loaded, try changing the cams on your box. I have only ever switched between Evocamd and mgcamd.
