Ethernet Connections

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Older boxes' ethernet permissions have expired and they can no longer connect. Other boxes will suffer the same fate as time goes by.
Only the oldest have this issue, and all have had service for much more than 12 months.
Apologies for the delay in announcing this, I had personal matters to attend to.

This does not mean you should bin your Spiderbox, as many will know Ethernet or Service+ was just the tip of the iceberg, it is very easy to extend your Spiderbox using "other means" it is still the great receiver it always was. All that has happened is receivers over 12 months old have had their Ethernet removed as was always stated would happen anyway.
Members who bought their receivers at the start will have had many more than 12 months connection, see the stickies section for ways to "extend" your viewing.

to be honest with you if this is an issue for anyone get a new one and then you will get it back the gift in its present form is as good as it has ever been but as Jimi has said the box hasn't even started to be used the way it was meant to read up and service plus and Ethernet will be never mentioned again.

I have just bought a 9000HD off ebay (2nd hand) can I get any extra channels or is it the equiv of an Openbox now?

It all depends on how old the box is mate , the only way you will find out is when you use the ethernet services it connects or gets login failed

so what exactly is Ethernet? I take it softcam keys and newcamd will still work ok on the box?

Ethernet was the "gift" channels that was an attractive incentive to buy the box as for softcam the limted amount of channels that use this format will still work also newcamd will work fine also

A little warning would have been nice!!

it depends how long really you had your box as it was stated it was only for 12months,so any longer than that then its a bonus so nothing really to complain about, but i agree maybe a warning say a month before switch off would have been nice

Ahhh, so it was like a massive private c4rdsh4ring server that you were allowed to connect to...

I suppose you could call it that or maybe the gift share anyhow there gone for older users so no need to cry over spilt milk lol

To use Ethernet (if still available to your receiver) you will need to install the 15/11/2011 patch. Then check under Network and click on "Register"

FM hardware boxes - NOT WORKING - error code (0)

RM hardware boxes - WORKING- login says CONNECTED

You can check which Hardware version your receiver is, in System Information Menu

also a very crafty way to sell even more receivers lol

but, if you work out how many channels you had with the 'gift' or ethernet service, take how much you paid for the receiver and divide it by 12, itll work out at around £17 a month

a good CS connection would have cost you that anyway on its own, and now that the receivers 'gift' has expired, you still have a HD receiver that can stream from your PC and still access 'other' servers as well (and if you have the HD receiver, you have a really nice remote as well)

From elsewhere
"I rang ***** shop today and asked for best price of Spiderbox with gift. It seems as though gift is NOT available even on new boxes.
He said that my existing box should still be O.K. with the correct software. I am in limbo along with many other frustrated forum members"

id bet money on it, that the next 'big thing' is a patch for the new eagle HD to connect to a 'gift' server, the spider slowly dies out, nowt to do with the importer of course, as the gift was offered by the manufacturer, but everyone who is complaining about losing their 'service' on the spiderbox, will be told to buy a shiney new eagle HD receiver, as theyre the latest bestest thing available

untill march 2013 when the ride starts all over again

as a receiver WITHOUT the 'gift' the spiderbox is massivley overpriced, with the gift, it 'was' worth it

once again, ill point out, that I AM NOT slating the hardware in any way at all

Just to clear things up.................
New spiderboxes still have service+/Ethernet, they don't ship with gift is what was meant.
I think it was maybe a language problem between shop and customer.
Normal gift will work once patch loaded and then the 12 months is activated.
Hope this clears everything up.
Sorry to rain on your parade Digidude lol but the spiderbox is still working hehe

No receiver should ever be shipped patched the legal penalties are severe for doing do.
