but if you phone 08448002400 and enter 2 & 7 as the options you will get a rep who will give you a new caseid and transfer you to tech help who will then juts issue you new hardware .

Sorry that this is more hassle than originally made out.

It is the service number that is issued to you by Microsoft. I got a new one when on the phone to the rep and used that fine.

i genuinely replaced a 5000 laser mouse/kbd last year, it wasn't nowt speaking to them - just have a 'stand in' keyboard while on your the phone. bang it, press keys etc as i'm sure they'll get you to try things to get it working - make it sound convincing while you're 'trying' to get it workin!!
