Miller closer to Rangers return

LMAO it's Friday the 13th....

Derby County striker Kenny Miller could finally complete his £1.9m return to Rangers on Friday.

The 28-year-old failed to reach agreement with Rangers on personal terms after talks earlier this week.

But, following further negotiations, the Scotland international was reportedly in Glasgow for a medical.

Miller joined Derby from Celtic for £3m last summer and would become the first player in the modern era to cross the Old Firm divide twice.

He enjoyed mixed fortunes in his previous stint with Rangers under Dick Advocaat after moving from Hibernian in June 2000 for £2m.

Wolves spent £3m to take the striker to Molineux, where he spent five seasons, before Gordon Strachan brought him to Celtic on a free transfer in July.

However, the forward found the net only 11 times in just over a year in the East End of Glasgow, and was transferred to Derby.

Miller scored six goals in 30 games for Derby last season as they dropped out of the Premier League in England following a miserable campaign.

Ibrox manager Walter Smith is familiar with the player from his days in charge of the Scottish national side, for whom Miller has notched 11 goals in 37 appearances.

Rangers and Derby have already agreed a fee of about £1.9m for the transfer.

KENNY MILLER has today completed his move to Rangers from Derby County to become Walter Smith's first summer signing of 2008.

The Scotland star ended speculation surrounding his future by putting pen-to-paper on a three year deal, with the club agreeing an undisclosed fee for the 28-year-old's services.

Smith has always been an admirer of Miller's attributes and got the chance to see his qualities on a regular basis when he was the Scotland manager

During this time Kenny hit the net against Austria, Italy, Norway at home and away, Switzerland, the Faroe Islands and Lithuania, often being utilised as a lone striker.

Miller has also worked closely with many of his new Gers teammates on international duty including Neil Alexander, Allan McGregor, Christian Dailly, Kris Boyd, David Weir, Lee McCulloch and captain Barry Ferguson.

The striker has expressed his joy at clinching a move back to Ibrox and will give Smith another attacking option for the start of the 2008/09 season.

He said; "I am delighted to return to Rangers and am looking forward to working again with Walter Smith and Ally McCoist with whom I have a great relationship.

"Last season was amazing for the club and I am desperate to enjoy even more success with Rangers over the next three years."

Walter Smith commented; "I believe that Kenny has matured into one of the best strikers Scotland currently has and I feel he will be a terrific addition to our squad."

What's that noise I hear?

Sounds like all the blue noses tearing up their season tickets ;)

What a great boost to Charlie Adam, Barry Ferguson, Kevin Thomson, Brahim Hemdani, Kris Boyd, Daniel Cousin, Sasa Papac, Kirk Broadfoot, Lee McCulloch and Jean Claude Darcheville.

Miller will be a shit magnet for abuse coming from the so-called-fans who like to barrack the players.

My view? I hope he scores a barrowload, and starting with the manky mob might get him a better reception at Ibrox.

Wonder who much he is on - suspect £20k per week. I see its a 3 year deal.

We now have lots of strikers who do not score many goals. The best striker in terms of goals scored is Boyd who seems not to be rated by Walter and could be on the way out.

Re: Miller signing now official - ALL COMMENTS HERE.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

weve put up with this shite now for a decade from murray.

why is everyone so surprised.

the day our 10 in a row dream ended was the day our great club started to die.

we may have to take 4 steps back to take 5 foward.
but it will be worth it in the mean time.

dont give murray anymore of your hard earned cash.
thatll get the message through.

its time to give rangers the kiss of life.

Fooking hell, I only read one post in all that that spoke any sense.

He's a Rangers player now, they should atleast give him a chance.

It'll be a different story once he knocks one past the Holy Goalie, I actually feel sorry for the guy now.

What's the real reason for the hatred?, his footballing skills or the fact he played for Celtic?!

When he came to Parkhead we didn't get on his back just because he played for Rangers!

Maybe its just something I don't know about but wtf with the hatred. O.K he isnt the greatest player but we do not have the money for great players.

If he plays for the shirt I will back him, if he is just here for a cushy number and doesnt try then I wont back him, I dont care if he played for Vatican City F.C, as long as he tries his best for us.

If he was looking for a cushy number then I doubt he'd have went to Ibrox, lol :)

Does Miller not read any papers? The guys got balls of steel.

i think he would be perfect up front with boyd for rangers and scotland

if they can strike up a great partnership at club level surely they can do that for scotland?

Cheers

Kris Boyd has a cushy number.....:proud: He is a natural goalscorer but a lazy big git, but I forgive his laziness due to the goals he scores.

He's there for the £25,000 a week plus bonus money, plus signing on fee,

i quite like the guy myself and given the chance he could do a job for orangers...

as Jaffa says "If he plays for the shirt I will back him, if he is just here for a cushy number and doesnt try then I wont back him, I dont care if he played for Vatican City F.C, as long as he tries his best for us."

my sentiments exacly. I hope WS isn't planning another season of 4-5-1 football with Millar in the lone striker role, he needs to play him in a supporting role to Boyd. If he does this, utilising Millars pace, i can see us scoring a lot of goals and taking the SPL title back to Ibrox (hopefully lol).

Smith wants to add some pace, power and height, with Daniel Cousin certain to leave and doubts over the fitness of Jean-Claude Darcheville.

Nacho Novo will also have to be used in the wide areas to cover for the loss of Steven Naismith, who is out until the New Year after knee surgery, and Chris Burke, who will not be available again until around Christmas after an ankle op.

Miller could be joined soon by former Hearts hitman Andrius Velicka, with Rangers hopeful they can persuade Viking Stavanger to sell the £1m-rated Lithuanian next week.

And they were today linked with a move for Sporting Lisbon striker Milan Purovic, who would cost around £1.7m.

The 23 year-old Montenegro cap has been limited to just 15 starts since moving to Portugal in January 2007 from Red Star Belgrade, and is also interesting Besiktas, Fenerbahce and Stuttgart.

Smith wants a tall forward, and Purovic is similar to the Italian striker Andrea Carriciolo, who Gers missed out on in January.

Purovic's agent, Zoran Stojadinovic, confirmed: "There is now the strong possibility that Milan can go to Rangers. I know of the interest in Milan from the Rangers coach and I'm now awaiting the transfer proposal. I think his style of play is suited to Rangers and the Scottish game. He's a typical number nine.

"There's no doubt that if Milan had the choice between the clubs in Turkey, Germany and Scotland then he'd prefer to go to Rangers."

Given his problems in the wide areas, Smith is also looking for a winger and is keen on Middles-brough's Adam Johnson. But boss Gareth South-gate is reluctant to even let him leave on loan.

Allan McGregor, as revealed in SportTimes, is being targeted by several Premiership teams with new Manchester City boss Mark Hughes the latest to be linked today.

Everton, meantime, are reported to be interested in Gers midfielder Kevin Thomson, although it would take offers of well over the £4m mentioned before Rangers would consider selling.
