my dreambox just died:
green light on, nothing on screen,
dreamup waits forever for dreambox,
dreambox nothing outputs to terminal..
any help?

Make sure the dreambox is powered OFF
Make sure you are using a null modem cable and not a normal serial/rs232 cable
Make sure the 'use network' option is UNCHECKED
Start Dreamup and click 'connect'
Power on dreambox and it should start to upload the bootloader

You box would need to be pretty well hammered for dreamup not to connect.

before i sucesufully reflashed dreambox with dreamup, so i'm
doing everything right, i'm using crossover cable, 2-3 3-2 5-5.
just green light and thats it.. :/
is it possible to jtag this receiver?

You can replace the motherboard but it depends how much they are whether it's worthwile.
I stuffed up my clone a few days ago and it's absolutely dead, no led at all. I'm hoping to find a jtag solution although it doesn't look like there are any jtag connections in this box.
I'm hoping once I get enough posts up to have a look at the pics in this post (last one by max gee)

i found some info on spanish forum howto jtag,
maybe somebody wanna try it?

mush you just mention a crossover cable are you using a serial null modem cable??? as dreamup doesnt use the crossover so you'll never get it to connect with just that

can you post here what exactly pinouts are of null modem cable?
i'm using 2-3 3-2 5-5,
and i already flashed with dreamup before with
this cable..

I think you are getting mixed up.

A crossover cable is an ethernet cable. A null modem cable is a 9-pin D-type cable that plugs into com1 on your pc.

If you google 'null modem cable' you'll get the pinout.

Have a read at the Tools, Guides & Informations thread in the cable dreambox section for a guide.

ok, sorry i'm using null modem cable wich wires are:
2-3 3-2 5-5

Let us know how you go with jtagging mush.
Was there anymore written instructions on that spanish site?
It's a shame the diagram is for a db25 plug and not for a db9.
My pc doesn't have a db 25 port.

are you sure it is a SERIAL NULL modem cable and not just a SERIAL cable as they both look the same from the outside.

you shouldnt need to jtag a dreambox i've had boxes that have had no LED's on at all, power going off during flashing etc and still recovered it using dreamup

Mine's not caused by faulty flashing though. I stuffed my box with a powerspike caused by plugging the rca cables in while the box and tv were on (fumbduck hangs head in shame but lives upto his name)
I've tried a couple of times with Dreamup but the connection is not made because the unit doesn't powerup. How do you get past that point with Dreamup if you have no power?

is there not a fuse just inside the casing?.....it's benn that long since i looked in one i cant remember lol

of cause i'm sure, because im flashed successfully same box before with same cable.
what i'm done wrong is: i was wiggling lnb input cable while dm was on. after that
dreambox freezes with green and red light on. i removed power, and rebooted,
but nothing was on screen. i tried already with dreamup with different pc's,
but no results. dreambox just outputing black screen, and dreamup still
waiting forever. i'm just thinking about jtag, mine box still has warranty.

krazylegz instead of asking same questions, can you answer to mine?
what is exactly pinout for your serial null modem cable?
i have made this cable by myself, and pinout is:
number 2 pin connected with number 3 pin, number 3 pin connected with number 2 pin;
these pins are for transmiting and receiving signals; and ground pin number 5 connected
to number 5 pin.
