Question about to get access to download a file...

Hi, I registered today to download a FREEWARE Tool called handbrake:

So I got my 5 posts and think I should fulfill the requirement to get access to download that file. Instead I only get offered to pay for a membership, which I am not really motivated to get a piece of software which is not only freeware itself, but so old and outdated, tht ais is no longer downloadable from original homepage.

But as version 0.9.3 is the last one which supported AVI-file creation. The newer versions (current version is v0.10.5 btw.) don't support AVI anymore, but as I want to use a lossless video codec (Lagarith) I want to give the older version a try.

It's a shame that I cant download ist despite all efforts I took to get access to it! Do I get something wrong or is this a "for-paying-customers-only" forum ?!

Edited: seems my replies to other users topics don't count as "post" so that may be the reason I am not fulfilling the prerequisites (of having 5 own posts) yet. But I / we will see soon...

i would read it carefully if i were you, posting nonsense for downloads is not allowed..

Hmm, seems it will take some time 4 me to get used to this forum.

As I tried to reply to the PM I received the message "Sorry austyria, you are not allowed to post links in PM's messages." So here is what I wanted to say: (generally thanking for the quick reply and asking if it is allowed to post links to other download-sources here at all):

As I am willing to contribute to this site in return for receiving access to something useful for me, I have one more question:

Is it legit to post links to other forums, where I usually download useful software, as this is the best and easyist was for me to give the people here something that will be usable for them.

Or is it not allowed to post links to other download-sources despite they offer good access to tools ?

THX in advance for enligthening me (and sorry for 4 my bad english, native language is german)

No links to other forums. 5 useful posts then 24hrs after that access is possible. Crap posts will be deleted and if persistant a ban will be issued.

Meanwhile I found what I was hoping to get from here otherwhere, but as goodbye-gift I will share the information, in case anyone else is interested too:

where even the outdated version is still available for those of us who want to use AVI instead of H.264 as output format.

I hope this will be valuated as useful information (and in case not I don't bother, as I currently have no reason to invest time here and get 5 posts, which count).

That is a usefull post, also a good example of the "5 post rule" filtering out the hit and runners..

To be fair to the guy he was honest and once he new our rules didn't waste our time by clocking so I respect him for that. He had no other interest in the forum which is fair enough. We are not everybodys cup of tea I suppose

Post clocking = to post crap / useless posts in order to just access the downloads.
Posts such as "thanks alot" when there is a "like" and a "thanks" button are classed as useless posts.

5 useful posts and a 24 hour wait after registration is needed before you can download..

Useful posts = a post that constructively helps towards the forum or another forum member.

posts clocks get deleted as clearly stated in the forum rules that you agreed to when registering.

Hope that clears it up.
