(...but Americans seem to have a problem when it comes to joined up thinking on guns.)

Thing is though @nara if they banned guns the nutters of this world would just adopt another method of killing albeit not as easy to mass murder agreed

Guns don't kill people, people kill people

My point is Ian is those people would kill anyway, even if there were no guns, it would be a knife, a sword, a bomb or by whatever means, there are hundreds of thousands of people around the world who own guns, 99.999% of those would do no one any harm,

I don't see how its a guns fault

If the UK adopted the American approach to allow everyone the right to bear arms (own a gun) then I would confidently bet my house on there being a major rise in gun crime.

I take all your points @nara @IANB and I don't actually agree with the American stance ;)

BUT ... lol

Just to put another pitch on it, I have a pretty decent Audi A4 it has ABS breaks and loads of other safety features, I can quite safely drive that car at well over 100 mph (breaking the law I know) and I can stop that car on a sixpence

Now put a Drunk driver in that same car, he ploughs into a load of pedestrians and kills and maims all of them, mass murder or driving offence ? my opinion is it would be murder, so then do we ban then cars just because an idiot decides to drive a car whilst drunk

As I said I don't agree with the American stance, but I still can't agree that an inanimate object can be held responsible for what a Human does with it

With a knife maniac, you do have a reasonable chance to run off or try to tackle them, but with an AK47 etc, a lot of people are going to fall.

"Guns don't kill people, rappers do" lol

if guns were banned in America, the hardware would end up somewhere, probably with the folk you would least like to own the equipment.
It would be difficult clean up America and change attitudes. maybe a couple of generations...

The hardest part would be to agree a consistent interpretation of the Second Amendment.
