Spiderbox 9000hd

Hello, I'm fairly new to this (1 yr in). I have 2 spiderbox 9000hd. Neither display anything on the front and when powered on 1 has a solid green light and won't connect to tv the other has a flickering red light. I've read on various forums that I can use a restore programme using an xp computer with a com port. I'm ok flashing software as I also have a fully working dm500s. My question is 1. Are they repairable, if they are could they be flashed with vista and 3 how do i tell a null modem from a straight cable they both look the same font they (9 holes in a blue casing) would it say somewhere on the cable
