some time ago . i belong to at least four fourms so dont know which. i posted a thread about how never pay for aa mobile call. tried to do a down load and was cleared down and then started up on my computer. other than aol. the thread was all in german and had scams in how to never pay for a phone call again. i said it was all in german and thought at the time i was on a pay line , so after a while cleared down .I then went back to the forum that gave me the thread and asked them. someone said if u havent given a credit card number nothing cud happen. well today i had a phone bill with twenty three quie rpt 23 quid for this call. it was to a site with spiders and lots of scams.beware it cost me 23quid and theres nothing i can do about it. can anyone remember a site that had a red backbround and a spider as the main theme
beware 23 a lot of money

hi re my recent posting ive found the site it would appear to be this and i was sent here by one of the forums cnt remember which forum soo beware of links

I've got a sneaky feeling the forum was cdrom-guide, funnily enough the same forum that sent me here - I didn't get a huge bill, then again i was using the site at work so who knows?

The site in question is CDRsoft. I think that they allow this page as a sponsor page because I have seen it elsewhere also. What you have done is fallen for the Auto Dialler routine. Lots of porn sites do this also. You have allowed an auto dialler to be downloaded and installed on your machine without, probably without realising it. These are very small programs that install themselves in about two or even three different locations on your computer. They then dial out using the installed software that ticks over at about a pound a minute. This goes directly on your phone bill. Lots of people have been had by this and you should take care in future what you allow to be downloaded.

speccy, is there any way of tracing these programs? i selected always dial my default connection, but sometimes get a message saying that something else is also trying to dial up a connection. i haven`t had any dodgy billing yet, but i`d like to get rid of these other programs before i do.

k-bee m8, I would be interested to know “in what context”, CD-ROM guide, referred you to Digital World? PM me if you like!

Also groaner2 & magnet, I know if you run “Zone Alarm pro”, it would pick up the autodiallers or other progs that tried to access the Internet. And it gives you the option to remove them from your system.

As usual Speccy was spot on - it was cdrsoft. Diamond - I used cd-rom guide as the name that linked me here when I first signed up to this forum, I've tried retracing my steps but can only imagine it was an indirect link that led me here In future I'll think twice before using a name in vain. If I stopped smokin'da'weed I'll probably remember my own name one day

When something else is trying to make a connection at the same time as your dial up connection then press ctrl, alt and del at the same time. All programs currently running will be displayed. You could also try going to control panel and open Add Delete programs. The culprit may be listed there but under what name I know not. Also check through your program files folder and look for any unusual names such as diallers or hotsex and stuff like that.
If you require protection then go to the surf safely section and read previous posts on whats needed to help protect your machine whilst on the net. Software is freely available from my site.

hi diamond tks for advise. where do i find zone alarm pro u recommend. Incidently there was a lot of porn getting in the way when i was trying to download the mobile fone scam. and yes when i first went into the site i was told " to view this section u shud download this particvular file. (remember this was in german and i was using my limited knowledge translating)I have since removed the download that closed my machine down and redialled into the payzone.

You will find most everything you need at:
SPECCY'S SITE and read the threads in the "Surf Safely" room.
Which is where this post is heading!
