Hi when OD started they chose the Seca encryption system which is widly used in Europe, so the technology was readily available. Sky spent alot of time and money developing Videogaurd and at the time was the only broadcaster using this system, so OD would have had to pay Sky cash to use this system.Now for OD to change encryption they would have to issue new Boxes to all customers which is not Cash effective

but they could just change over using cams --- all the stb's have a cam slot in the front or back theese are bigger slots.
and it would cost them about £10 each for the cams and still about £1 - £2 for each card so it would still cost them a whole lot o money for the millions of custormers they already have.
