Don't caravan any more, just can't afford it..........................but would be back into it in a flash if I could.
I have experience of touring and also being sited, so have some knowledge of both scenarios and would be more than happy to help out with any queries that anyone has.
I started out with an old Astral tourer that had the old gas mantle lighting, the water was cold only and was provided via a foot pump fitted in the floor and no toilet fitted ! although I soon had electric fitted for convenience, I then moved up to an Adria with toilet and electric fitted but still only cold water.
When I decided to use a seasonal pitch I moved up to a large Hobby 650 that had hot and cold water, toilet/shower, blow air heating and a Fixed Double bed, which then got upgraded to an almost new (under a year old) Hobby 720Ukfe which was a proper 7 berth with large fixed bunk beds, a Fixed King Size Bed, Toilet/Shower, central heating............it was a real home from home plus we also had a 3 metre wide awning that we kitted out with a wooden floor !
When the kids weren't so keen on coming we moved down to a slightly smaller Tabbert, which was termed as a "dry" caravan because it did not have sink or a toilet fitted (although it did have a four burner hob and oven fitted as standard) this tends to be the "standard" that the gypsies buy because they believe it is unhygienic to have a toilet where you will eat and sleep ! But I fitted a sink and water in the kitchen area and then converted one of the huge wardrobes that were fitted into an electric flushing toilet.
So as you can see that I was not afraid to pull things apart in the caravan or cut holes in the bodywork, although I always thoroughly planned and measured any project that I took on.
I did tow the Hobby 720 on the road a couple of times with the 4x4 that I had although at the time the size of the caravan made it illegal to tow with anything less than a 7.5 ton lorry and even when there was a VOSA check pulling in any vehicle towing something, I was just waved on by the police...............they must have just though "Gypsy...Forget It !" because at that time there were very few people who towed a Hobby that weren't of the travelling persuasion.
