Been to Rat's, have rash to prove it ;)
Looking for a first car for the daughter and found a clio on a 2001 Y plate.

Did some checking and it turns out it was a cat d back in 2007.

I've told the seller who says he didnt know, also said that it isnt worth market value because of it.

It's up for 1300. The seller has found out that it had roof damage and thats why it got a cat d stamped on it.

Question is would you go for it and at what price ?

tbh the only time it will affect you is on a re sale as legally you would have to declare the cat d (if you knew ;)) but in all honesty m8 if it's anything like my eldest daughters first car it will have loads of little bumps and scrapes that it wont matter a fook lol

Offer him a £1000 because of the history

Yeah thats about what I was thinking, plus its due a cam belt so I could use that as well.

With it being the newer model (not the latest) It's a insurance group 2 and has abs ect on as standard.

4 years timing belt replacement ,if that goes your in the crap, have a look in the cooling system chamber for rust/tomato soup for more problems ahead.:proud:

Personally i'd avoid it.

Unless its supreamly cheap - Low millage or somthing special about it look else where.

Theres plenty of other good examples out there for your money.

Renault - stay away
CAT D Renault - stay well away.

Get her a corsa or a micra or something like that.

I foooken hate corsa's lol. Timing belt not a problem for me to do I think it's £70 for the belt and a pump, they leak when you change the belt ;)

I may have a look at it anyway and offer him a stupid amount.

You're a bloke you're meant to hate them! lol get her a girls car...give her yours! :proud:

Me and me bro get salvage cars every now and again as a side line and fix them, cat c or d.

There is not much really to distinguish between the two cats if I am honest... sometimes I think the engineer is dyslexic lol ! see a cat D mondeo estate st years ago when they were pretty new out... was ) that shape and I mean a bannana lol ! and that was Cat D ! then there was a Slightly older mondeo with bonnet and wing only damage Cat C !! PMSL

C is meant to be worse than D :) but anyway lol

If it had roof damage, that could be anything from having paint stripper put onto the car (requires a lot of work to put right with stripping and treating), or just a dent etc that still requires paint.

Personally I would make offer of £1k for it, providing it looks straight and you can tell the roof is not full of filler or obvious dinks/lines that could indicate something been welded in... then Id say alls good.

Go along the roof and tap it lightly and listen for an acoustic difference, you will know what I mean if you hear it mate.

From that picture i can see that it looks like the sealent from the windscreen (Or rubber) on the top left hand side! Just have a look at it.

It all depends when it happens, Cat C/Cat D are all to do with the amount of money it takes to fix. For example you could have a 20 year old car, with a smashed light - Cat C because its more than 2/3 of the repair price.

But you could have a 60 plate cat with a total front ender, but as it only cost 1/4 of the price to fix its a cat D

Personally i'd avoid it there loads of cars out there (And to be honest the mirca sounds like a better bet - And if you get the newer shape its loaded with toys as well)

Thing is the Clio is a very popular car specially the 1.2 because they are ideal for 1st timers, this keeps the price high because of the high demand.

He may be thinking someone else will come along who wont check into the history so much, is hard mind trying to find a decent car for a £1000 that doesn't need a load of cash spending on it :)

Frenchman

Micras didnt really get abs till the latest models, I cant find one anyways lol

Sisters got a mica, any 97ish model onwards comes with ABS

Theres loads of decents cars out there for less than a grand. You just cant expect to get anything failry new.

I'v feel much more comfortable in an oldershape car with no CAT history and a cat d that may have had its roof buchard at one point!
