I have just bought a new dell laptop with build in wireless adapter. However, when booted up the laptop recognised the d-link wireless router (which is powered by an ntl modem), but I get 'cannot find server' notice when I open IE.
Any suggestions on what I need to do?

Yes the laptop does recognise the wireless router on start up. I should have noted that the modem has a cl*ned mac address. Do I need to enter the address that brings me to the user name and password prompt where I enter 'root' into both?

No, you dont need to worry about that. I assume you have set up an IP addy on the wireless adaptor?

Can you ping the router from the lappy??
Can you ping the internet?? ie this website?

if not, the router is blocking you, maybe you need to turn NAT on.

I have loaded the software that came with the d-link router.
I had the the same problem when I hard wired the modem to the lappy.
The xp connection was there but stated is was not in full operation.
Talk me through 'pinging'?
(and NAT)
