Hi, have just been given a DM600 with C tuner and guess will need to switch to a sat one, can i get live footie matches via sat with this box? thank in advance

i could say yes or no then you would say how and why lol. the best thing i could say to you is have a read of the stickies and instructions. everything you need to know is already there.
some very good tutorials as well.

My m8 has a 600, and I had a play with it, it seems ok, just a fancy 500s that has a HDD in it. I chucked OpenPLi on it, (newer version of PLi) which seemed pretty stable.

It has the ability to record, and possibly timeshift, but I wasn't convinced with this feature, seemed to cause a few lag issues on the channel you were watching. (Tried with a couple images) But these issues may well have just been a naff HDD, so you'll need others opinions on it, as I only tinkered, it wasn't my own box.

The one thing I really hated about it was having to use DreamUp and a Null modem cable to flash it, a complete and utter PITA. I'm used to using FTP/Telnet to flash my boxes, with Null cable only used for bolloxed images. Hopefully I missed out and there are easier ways of flashing it, again something you'll have to find out for yourself.

Live footie will only be an option if you have a motorised setup or a C/S setup from someone/where.

I wouldn't go out my way to buy one. If one was going cheap, I'd consider it, but I'd not pay the sort of money they seemed to go for.

You can flash the dm600 via http: unless the image is fu**ed

Log into box via telnet.

Type:

mount -o remount,rw /boot
rm -f /boot/*
reboot

Open up a web browser and type in the ip address of your dreambox (which will be one it picks up via DHCP not the one you had set in the config). This should take you to a web page. Choose the upgrade option and point to where you have an image stored.

Before you do this you must:

Make sure you have a reasonable way to pick up the Dreambox via DHCP once you've nuked the image.

As for most other things the dm600 works the same as the dm500 and a lot of the feature cross over onto the vu+ duo, they basically run the same way.
So you really should be able to find plenty of info.
You will find it hard to discuss many things openly as some of the questions you are going to want to know answers to have legality issues. And who wants to put that sort of stuff on an open website.
So get reading.
You will probably find that you will get more help with a specific question too.
