Updating from 2.1 to 4.1/4.2

Is it possible to update a Wii on 2.1 to 4.1/4.2?

I told someone in work I would update their Wii and it's on 2.1!!!

Any help/links would be appreciated.

yes should be fine
i have never done one this old but done one a few weeks back from 3.2 to 4.1

If I play Sports Resort will that update me to 3.4 which will then let me install Homebrew Channel?
