Two men are on trial at Northampton Crown Court accused of aiding the theft of 1,440 PS3 consoles worth £700,000 on May 15 2007. The men deny claims that they had a part in the robbery in which the consoles were loaded into a and lorry driven out of NYK Logistics in Grange Park. Security at the distributor has been called incredibly lax and it took 11 hours for someone to realize the consoles had been stolen.

quote:

He said: "It's clear the PlayStations were stolen and it's clear whoever stole them must have known how incredibly lax the security was in operation in that warehouse at the time.

"The allegations made against my client is that, because he was there, then he must be guilty.

"But it's clear other people had the opportunity to have taken these PlayStations and that must be a matter of relevance. It appears this theft was not noticed from 6am until 5pm.

"It's imperative the jury know what security was in place."

Stuart Yeung, prosecuting, told the jury Paloka was spotted acting suspiciously by one of his colleagues around the time of the theft.

"During his shift, she said he appeared jumpy, he received two separate phone calls before he started and dropped a pallet while working."

CCTV camera footage played to the jury showed an unmarked, 38-tonne articulated lorry, with two men in the cab, pulling up to the entrance gate at about 6am.

The occupants told the security officer they were from a firm called Trilogy and were collecting the PlayStation 3 consoles to deliver them to S****horpe.

The footage went on to show a man loading 25 pallets into the trailer of an articulated lorry with a forklift truck. The lorry was then driven off the site.

The court heard how the employee who allowed the lorry to leave the site has since lost his job.

Zekaj, of Wake Way, Grange Park, Northampton, and Paloka, of Walthamstow, east London, both denied they were the people in the CCTV footage. The trial continues.

yes. i dont see how its relevant to this section. its more suited to general news section. its a crime thats taken place, its nothing to do with what this section is all about.

thats my opinion anyway.

I see, so how long have you been the PS3 section police? Oh yeah thats right, your NOT.

Its relevant to the section, as its about the PS3. It could also have been posted in general, but I felt that it would be better suited to this section, as its relevant.

Please tell me, what this section is all about then, if not PS3 news?

i will just keep my opinions to myself from now on in your posts. since your easily offended.

the next time i read in my local paper that some one has got the jail for shop lifting a celtic top out the shop, i will let you all know in the sport in general section, or maybe even the freebie section. so everybody else can go try it. it would be as relevant to sport as this is to the ps3 section.

but you ought to chill out a bit, we are allowed to voice our opinions around here, unless that has changed in the last few days. since my post was not offensive in anyway, i fail to see why it upset u in anyway.

Im very chilled deedie. And far from easily offended. You will know if you offend me. I just didnt understand why you posted such negativity, if you didnt like the article, then why post a response? You could of just ignored it, yet you felt the need to criticise the post.

In future I will stay out of you forum, as you seem to know what the PS3 users of this forum talk about and want to hear about.

I hope it does not get hacked coz that may mean the death of it and a new expensive console to take its place. I know someone who used to hack their previous consoles but they got fed up of having tons of games and not playing most of them. Buy the really good games and take your time with them it is really a lot more fun. Plus there is also the piece of mind that you will not get banned from the online part of the games if you get caught.

Well that's a load of nonsense for a start!

Has hacking killed the Xbox 360?
What about the Playstation 1?
Did it kill off the Playstation 2?
Did hacking kill of the original Xbox?
What about the PSP, is that dead?
Or the NDS and the intendo Wii has hacking killed these?

Should i go on?

:)

What i meant to say is that a newer console would come out and support would shift from the ps3 to the new one a la the original xbox. And even if it doesn't I still hope it does not get hacked because that is when you see crappy games come out because developers just wanna make a quick buck rather than bring out a top quality game because they know that the majority will just go and pirate it.

PS remember the dreamcast

The Dreamcast was dead in the water even before it was released, it was poorly marketed.

Where exactly would Sony get this new replacement console?

Microsoft dropped the original Xbox as they didn't want to market 2 seperate consoles, a poor choice in my opinion, it had nothing to do with piracy.

Your last paragraph is complete nonsense, as is your complete post!

There is no proof that piracy has harmed any of the main players in the console market, there is however an abundance of proof that piracy has bolstered consoles sales i.e ps1, ps2, DS, Wii, Xbox Xbox360...

First of all read the post properly, I have never stated it will defo mean the death of the ps3 i said "may" thers's a difference there if you actually read without blinkers on. The dreamcast or sega was royally screwed by their then partner microsoft that killed it not due to lack of or lack in quality of marketing.

"Where exactly would Sony get this new replacement console?"

What an inane statement.

Where on earth have they got there previous consolesd from??!!! It's not like Hitachi have given them their ps1's and ps2's. Sony's not about to go bankrupt anytime soon they can bring another console out tomorrow if they choose. However, the point of the post was not wether ps3 goes defunct or not but the negative effect of piracy on actually playing good quality games (notice I have not said anything about financial cost to an individual which leads most people to piracy) What I wanted to highlight in my post before you took it in a direction that was not intended was once piracy hits a console software houses are more reluctant to put out decent games as the time, effort and resources put in just does not make it worth while. Talk to people in the industry off the record and this is what they will say.

Anyway, like I said before I hope ps3 does not get hacked because I like playing quality games once a console gets hacked completely (the 360 is not complete) it's one of the reasons that start the end of a lifecycle of a console.

Laughable :)

I don't know where to begin with this one, lol

Do you think that Sony have a replacement console just waiting to be released incase the PS3 gets hacked, I don't think so, siliiest thing you've said in your entire post :)

But no doubt you'll change your tune once again and say that 'you didn't mean that', and attempt to shift attention away from your original comments.

Some of the best quality games for the PS2 have come out towards the end of the machines lifespan, not a single thing you have said has held water and anything I've pointed to you, you have altered your stance on the initial point.

Your last point, again is laughable, basically what you are saying is that the one reason we have next-gen consoles is because the old ones were hacked, totally untrue, it's called progress. If Piracy was an issue then why do Sony still manufacture PS2 hardware and why do game developers still develope QUALITY games for a machine that's been hacked?

How many quality games are there one the PSP, Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii, aren't these machines hacked and have been for some time?

It's bizarre, but for some reason a hacked console always seems to win the console wars, developers still seem to develope and hardware manufacturers love it, I've never fully understood that.

Did I say sony have a console ready and waiting. I said in reply to " where will sony will get there next console" That it is not that difficult for them to do if they wanted to (don't twist words) In fact if you diid your research the next sony, nintendo and microsoft console are already being worked upon( comments from last years E3)

But no doubt you'll change your tune once again and say that 'you didn't mean that', and attempt to shift attention away from your original comments.

you have a great skill in taking words out of context, everytime i have said something I have used the term "may", as in might , could do and not will. I think you need to understand that

Some of the best quality games for the PS2 have come out towards the end of the machines lifespan, not a single thing you have said has held water and anything I've pointed to you, you have altered your stance on the initial point.

My initial point was and still is that i would prefer for the ps3 to not get hacked as it "MAY" have a detrimental effect on the quality of games and "MAY" lead to sony bringing out another expensive piece of kit. I have never stated that my point of view is an all encompassing correct point of view on the console industry.

Funny I have not seen GTA IV Or Devil May Cry 4 on PS2. The games that are coming out are not your triple AAA titles but licensed crap from movies and so on and we know how great all those are. And please dont mention fifa or pro evo seriously!!!!

http://www.game.co.uk/PS2/ - some great tiles there!!!!

Sony have recently said that the ps3 has a 10 year life cycle as it is technically that advanced. If it gets hacked will it have a long life cycle amounting to 10 years - I don't think so. I will give you the ps2, but we are not going to see the likes of the ps2 again even though the wii is looking like it at the moment.

How many quality games are there one the PSP, Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii, aren't these machines hacked and have been for some time?

the amount of quality games on the psp nds and wii are not all that great can you list me 10 on each console (but again this is subjective, since what you may think is quality I may not) what I will say is that i have all those consoles and for the wii i have zelda (reallya gamecube game), mario, super smash, metroid ( Mario Kart isn't all that)

for the DS zelda and revenant wings (forget about rehashed stuff from older consoles that i have already played)

PSP - god of war , gta, ratchet and clank, FF7 the prequel

It's bizarre, but for some reason a hacked console always seems to win the console wars, developers still seem to develope and hardware manufacturers love it, I've never fully understood that.

Who said anything about winning console wars

Can we just agree to disagree mate lol!!!

Whats your stance anyway would you like it hacked or not and why?

to be honest, the only way sony will sell the ps3 by the boat load would be to release the hack them selves....

other wise its drifting further and further away.....into dreamcast territory.....

a moddable console with a library of great games is always going to be a winner.....

i see the point though that modding a console can have its consequences by the owner owning every game and not even played 1 all the way through....

Actually the dreamcast failed, because Sega didnt recoup the 300 million it cost to develop the console. All developers lose money on consoles, its on the games that they make the cash back. Unfortunately, although the dreamcast was an awesome console, people just didnt buy it for whatever reason, and the games released didnt recoup enough to justify sega making another console. That is why sega have not made another console, simply because they cannot afford the great loss involved in developing one.

I think witchy has made some relevant points, and there is no proof that piracy would kill a console, far from it, piracy is what made the PS1 such a success.
