this supposedly new file has been appearing on various forums so i installed it over v300 on the box in the bedroom and there is no difference the picture sill freezes (im not complaining) for a split second every half hour and there is no notable difference the EPG is still as slow as a week in the jail so is it possible that this v400 is not a new file at all but simply renamed. could someone enlighten me and please excuse my ignorance if im wrong.

It certainly worked for me.. I too had the dropouts with the 300_ee but not had a single one with latest update. I find if you set the time to auto and turn summertime off and put the gmt to gmt+1 that helps with the epg slightly.

its worked for me okay as well, not once has the picture frozen.

Works fine for me
maybe in your case you should of done a reset sometimes that what it takes

You should aleays do a factory reset before downloading any firmware to the starview.
