Rangers forged 10 points clear at the top of the SPL table after Celtic suffered a first home defeat of the season as Hibernian struck late at Parkhead.

Dundee United shared six goals with St Johnstone, bottom club Falkirk drew with Motherwell and Aberdeen enjoyed an easy win at Hearts.

Reigning champions Rangers scored early and late to tighten their grip at the summit after a 2-0 success at St Mirren.

Northern Ireland midfielder Steven Davis scored after just two minutes and Spanish striker Nacho Novo made certain of the points with the second goal four minutes from time.

Hibernian came from behind to stun Celtic 2-1 at Parkhead as Danny Galbraith scored a last-minute winner.

Celtic were in front after just five minutes courtesy of Marc-Antoine Fortune, but Hibs were level on 26 minutes through Anthony Stokes.

And Hibs then snatched all three points to move up to third in the table when substitute Galbraith scored in the dying embers of the game.

Dundee United have dropped down to fourth in the table after an entertaining 3-3 draw with St Johnstone at Tannadice.

The visitors were 2-0 up inside 21 minutes thanks to goals from Peter MacDonald and Liam Craig, but United hit back to level through Jon Daly and Danny Swanson.

Steven Anderson's own goal gave United the lead on 77 minutes, but MacDonald replied immediately with his second of the night to earn Saints a point.

Hearts' seven-game unbeaten run in the SPL came to an abrupt end as their Scottish Cup conquerors Aberdeen won 3-0 at Tynecastle.

Fraser Fyvie gave the Dons a 12th minute lead and second-half goals from Darren Mackie and Derek Young sealed the points.

Motherwell battled for a 0-0 draw away to Falkirk after playing the second half with 10 men following Giles Coke's dismissal on the stroke of half-time.
