Sony has warned users of its Xperia devices that upgrading to the Android Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) update may cause problems to some devices.
In a blog post on 30 March, Sony stated that from mid-April it would be rolling out ICS to its Xperia Arc S, Neo V and Ray handsets.
The older Xperia Arc, Play, Neo, Mini, Mini Pro, Pro and Active are listed as getting the upgrade later in late May or early June.
However, coming alongside the ICS update's confirmation, Sony warned that the upgrade may lead to performance issues on some of the company's older devices, stating it could "impact performance in some user scenarios".
The company highlighted concerns over ICS' increased RAM usage, indicating Xperia devices running 512MB RAM could struggle with certain apps and tasks.
Sony has confirmed that the update will only be available for download via a PC or companion - meaning it will not be available as a download over 3G or Wi-Fi.
The news makes Sony's Xperia range of handsets a part of the growing wave of smartphones being confirmed for an ICS update.
Bringing Google's latest Android version to the Xperia devices, the update will go a long way to increasing ICS' usage across the globe.
Despite being released alongside the Galaxy Nexus in late 2011, according to recent stats from Android Developers, at the start of March 2012 only 1.6 per cent of all active Android devices ran using ICS.
Other major devices set to receive ICS have also included Samsung's plus-sized Galaxy Note handset and Google's former flagship device, the Nexus S.
