Just had my missus on the phone complaining her rear reflector on her mk 7 fiesta has been smashed, wouldnt really matter too much but her mot's on thursday so it'll fail as its completely knackared

she rings up and says as im doing nothing and shes at work can i try and sort it out for her, "woman, pissing about with plugins on the dreambox aint doing nothing" lol but anyway as im numero uno boyfriend i said id sort it, so rung my local ford dealer who said no problem we'll have the part for you tomorrow morning £7.50. happy days i thought but then they asked if i wanted it fitted and put me through to whoever, some woman who said its a 55 quid job to fit as its not a nice job to do at all. 55 QUID!!! ARE YOU JOKING!! I said? Well sir its a difficcult job, I'll call you back I replied as I better check with her, she said she cant afford it so I had a quick google which led me to a forum with someone else who changed theirs.

its just a case of sticking your hand up behind the bumper and removing two self tapping screws. ok, it looks like it might be a little fiddly but not 55 quid fiddly and if very needs be i'll borrow a jack from someone!! needless to say she didnt get a call back and i'll do it myself! cheeky bloody gits!!!! why do garages do this? its a main dealership so i doubt they'd see any of the hugely inflated profit of that job anyway!!

I can almost see tomorrows rant "garage didnt order my part" grrr lol

anyone else nearly choke when getting a quote from a garage or dealership??

Its probably less than an hours work and the £55 is actually the cost for a full hours labor.

This is normal, and think yourself lucky she doesn't own an Audi/BMW etc as labor charges are more likely in the £80 region

Its two clips, more like less than ten minutes. Saying that though watch me take the best part of the day doing it myself tomorrow lol :proud:

phoned the stealers up for a coil pack on my vectra and he quoted £150. Told he was having a laugh as you could get the genuine part on ebay for £80 delivered. asked what his best price was and straightaway quoted £113. It was saturday and didnt have time to get there before they shut and got one from local parts place for £53.It was the same when I asked them to enable my fuel computer, just needed their tech2 to change one digit to enable it and was quoted a hours labour @ £90 for less than 5 mins work. Robbing twats, went to local Taxi firm and they did it for free.

Someone had the rear reflector smashed on there Fez a few months back so got a new one of them; got it for about £10. They are very easy to replace just get underneath the car squeeze your hand in and you'll find it secured by two self tapping screws; one in the middle and one right behind where the wheel is. Hopefully these pictures will explain a little better.

Nearer £200 ph labour charges for Audi, My jaw still hurts from hitting the floor when we called about doing a cam belt change on a Audi avant

Odd, my cam belt and tensioner on my A4 only cost me £225 (it's not a belt but a chain) for about 2.5 hours work.

Thanx mate! When I reckoned ten minutes, well it took over an hour and we had to take the car to my dads to jack it up fook me I've never seen something so fiddly I reckon your meant to take the bumper off to do it but it's done now good luck to anyone else with a mk 7 fiesta trying it lol

If anyone's in doubt seriously, stick your head underneath one and have a look lol.

55 quid seemed like a bargain once I started but glad its done now :)

lol had a headlamp bulb go on my mondeo 09 last week

i looked in the book as i had a quick look under bonnet and there didn't seem to be much room.

Book was going on about taking headlamp unit out....quick phone call to garage they confirmed and offered to do it £52.50 + bulb

i coughed and did it myself, it was a little bit fiddly as instructions not that clear but including going to shop to buy bulb and get washed up after it took 40 minutes.

the only thing was i needed a 30Torks driver but had one in works kit

Hatab that is the problem now they are bringing out so many specialist tools just to do the simplest jobs and its stopping you from doing your own maintenance. Its all a gimmick so you have to take it to the garage and spend a fortune. Glad you got it sorted m8. Well Done.

Well just had a call from the garage, two front tyres need changing to pass the mot so that's 100 quid, when will the expenses end ahhh lol

Its not your week jamesy :( you could always try for part worn tyres m8 there is some good ones out there if you look it will be half the price of a new one and it will give you a chance to save up call at your local tyre fitters and ask. Just a thought m8. :)
