Sky customers will soon be able to watch TV on sets which do not have a Sky box with the launch of the UK's first Freeview HD box.

Through a collaboration with Humax, viewers will soon be able to catch their favourite programmes live and on-demand in high definition on the Humax HD-FOX T2, Sky Player has said.

The Humax HD-FOX T2 was launched in February and already supports the BBC iPlayer. Under the new deal, other TV sets in rooms without a Sky box will also support the broadcast.

Existing Sky customers will be able to use the service with immediate effect, while new ones will have to subscribe to one of the various monthly deals.

The firm will also launch a 500GB digital recorder version pre-installed with Sky Player later this year.

Griff Parry, Sky's director of On-Demand, said: "We know that many Sky homes also have Freeview in other rooms, and this provides a great way for them to enjoy Sky away from their Sky box.

"And for new customers, particularly those in Freeview homes, it provides an innovative new access point to Sky's high-quality pay TV content."

Sky's online player can already be watched on other Freeview boxes, as well as on PCs, Macs, game consoles, Freeview and web-connected TVs.
