The EPG for Sky has remained the same for some years and customers like that – we get to know where things are and what they do. Familarity is comforting. However, times change and digital advancements allow more and more functionality so a major revamp will bring about some interesting changes.
So what changes will the revamp bring?
All the key features remain, such as the top band of icons, but the new improved EPG will include:
* New landing page with key icons for easier navigation and a simple presentation
* Pinpoint HD graphics for a sharper, sleeker interface
* new recording functionality to allow you to categorise your content by genre for speed and simplicity
* 8 channels per TV guide page, instead of the current 6
The new guide will be available in stages – the Sky +HD 890 and 895 boxes this month, Sky +HD 780 boxes, Pace and Samsung later and on all Sky +HD boxes by the end of the year, excluding Thomson.
Sky’s brand director of TV products, Luke Bradley Jones has been talking about the changes. He said:
‘Hosting over 1.2 billion customer interactions each month, the Sky Guide is a fundamental part of the Sky experience, which is why we have worked hard on these new features to continue to give our customers the best experience we possibly can’
This is the first major revamp since the launch of the original HD EPG in 2009. The new EPG looks fantastic – the graphics are sharp and the familiar blue branding is much bluer. The icons are all relevant and look like to allows much quicker navigation around the EPG. The categorisation of recorded content will be a godsend in many households – no longer will the kids ‘accidentally’ delete a much wanted programme as they scroll through trying to find their Disney film.
