The Simpsons will take over from Friends in Channel 4's 9pm slot on Fridays, The Guardian reports today.

Sex and the City, Fraiser and Friends are all ending this season, leaving a gaping whole in C4's normally reliable lineup.

Now the network is planning to put faith in new episodes of The Simpsons - which it acquired at a cost of $1m per episode - by putting them at the centre of Friday nights.

Repeats from earlier series of the show will occupy the 6pm slot each weekday in a partnership with C4's flagship teen drama Hollyoaks.

C4 will get the rights to the cartoon series from BBC Two this November :)
