the fa cup was an invitation compution at the start .... its not the same ........ Wanderers vrs royal engineers ...lol 1 collage team playing against there army buddies lol ......

the first football assosation to have a comption was scotland a year later where all the teams in the scottish league took part ....... most football historians agree that the scottish cup is the oldest club compition because it was run by the members of the governing body ...... and not played by a few collages and army teams ....

In 1873 Queens Park sent letters to other Scottish clubs asking for a donation of £1 towards purchasing a trophy along the lines of the recently established FA Cup. Thus came into being the Scottish FA Cup - the oldest trophy in the world still in existence.

The early days of the Cup saw it take up almost permanent residence in Queen's Park's own trophy room until strong challengers like long-gone Vale of Leven and Renton , as well as more familiar names such as Hibernian and Dumbarton and the more recently departed Third Lanark emerged to capture the prize. Until the formation of the Scottish League in 1890 Queen's Park won the trophy nine times. They have managed just one since.

the league in 1890 wasnt the first scottish league it was reformed then because a lot of players and teams threatend to leave ... this opened up the way for teams in the highlands a other remote areas to join ..... god celtic were formed in 1887 ..... some say 188 because thats whats on the badge but thats when celtic registered with the scottish league as celtic .... and not glasgow hiberian ...so the league was there and so was the cup ...played with the then scottish governing body ....

The Scottish, English, Irish and Welsh FA’s met in Manchester were they united their rules and formed an International Football Association Board to control the laws of the game. it was a scot who started your league in 1889...Scot, William McGregor, who floated the idea of a "league" where English clubs would play each other on a formalised home and away basis. Discussions took place in 1888, leading to twelve clubs from the North of England and the Midlands contesting the first season in 1888/89. so i take it it was pretty much the same with you ....btw the scottish teams played in whats known as the fa cup ...it was orginally known as the english cup ...queens park to part in the competion .... so it now shows u that it was an invitation cup .... 1 year later the newly formed scottish league forced them to leave the english cup (fa cup ).... or be expelled from the scottish league ... which its self is weired because they didnt actully join the league till 1900 because of their stance on profesional players ....... they refused to pay players a wage .... even though most team calling themself amatures still payed their plays so called travel expences

The first FA Cup competition in season 1871-72 had fifteen entries. (This season more than 600 took part.) Wanderers, a team formed by ex-public school and university players, won the first final 1-0 against Royal Engineers at Kennington Oval. A crowd of 2,000 attended the match and they each paid one shilling for the privilege.

your forgetting that the fa cup wasnt called the fa cup it was called the english cup later to be known as the fa cup same cup different name ... ...... ...where as the sfa have always ran the scottish cup but not the scottish league ..... hope this makes it clearer ... cause somtimes i even confuse myself

The World Cup is still the same competition even though they aint playin for the Rous Cup anymore.
And like you say, Queens park enetered our first competition.................... because the Scots didnt have one for them to join until a year later

....... and the SPL aint always been called the SPL - -does that mean your league is only about 15 years old? course not - -same the premiership league is part of a league dating back to god knows when.

no m8 see thats wrong too the sfa at the beggng had a big say in our first league set up .... ...then the dcottish league as we knew it set up taking alot of power from the sfa .... regaurding finance and things .... few years back it changed again the spl is nolonger part of the scottich league it still comes under the umberella of the sfa as its the ruling body of all scottish football but the spl and the scottish league are different .... they came to an agrement to allow promotion and relegation ...but like last year the team falkirk ... werent allowed promotion because the standard of their stadium wasnt up to the guied lines the spl set ...... feck no wonder our national team dont have a chance 3 different bodies running our football lol ...... anyway the fact is you cant keep calling a cup by the same name if its not ....now i know the english fa like to do this but thats only for the same reason the call themselves the F.A and not the efa ... arrogance .....they try to pretend this is the oldest club tornament because it sounds grand ...... but truth is its a different toranament ...like the fairs cup and the uefa cup ..... the uefa is the new fairs cup but they are still different ...
