Brazilian star Ronaldo claims he is set to join Manchester City as the Eastlands outfit bid to become one of the best clubs in the world.

The 31-year-old is a free agent after leaving AC Milan in the summer and could join Mark Hughes' men outside of the transfer window.

Ronaldo is still recovering from the serious knee injury he suffered in February, but says he has been approached by City and is confident of securing a move to the Premier League.

The three-time World Footballer of the Year is eager to join forces with compatriot Robinho, who joined City in a British record deal on summer transfer deadline day.

"I like the project that Manchester City have presented me," said Ronaldo.

"They want to make the club one of the best in the world and I feel that I can help.

"It is the best offer I've received and it will be very interesting to play with Robinho.

"Me and him, together, we can score more than 50 goals."

Ronaldo won the World Cup with Brazil in 1994 and 2002 and is the all-time leading scorer in the competition with 15 goals in 19 appearances
