Retail struggling to meet day one demand for GTA IV

Online retailers GAME, Gamestation and Play.com are all indicating that they will be struggling to meet consumer demand for Grand Theft Auto IV when the game is released on April 29.

Although copies of the limited edition of the highly-anticipated Rockstar title are still being offered for delivery on launch day, the standard edition for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 may be in short supply for those that haven't already got their pre-orders in.

"We cannot guarantee delivery on the day of release for orders placed on or after the 7th of April," states GAME on its website, while rival Play.com offers, "we are currently sold out of this item. All orders will be dispatched on a first come, first served basis."

Gamestation too, indicates that "due to unprecedented demand for the standard editions of Grand Theft Auto IV, we are no longer taking pre-orders for this version."

The game is expected to be one of the biggest games released this year, with some analysts suggesting worldwide sales could top six million units in its first week of sale.

The retail community has been offering plenty of incentive to pre-order the title, with GAME giving away 500 free Xbox Live points to users, while HMV doubled that offer to 1,000 points as well as a book of vouchers worth GBP 130.

April and May could be massive sales months for the industry this year - as well as GTA IV, April will also see the release of Wii Fit from Nintendo, a game that is already selling out in stores, and Rock Band from EA, which was dated and priced for release today

lol same here, been constantly checking ngroups for it, only recently got round to playing Saints Row, finished it the other day and need another sandbox game to fill my time…

With it being such a big game I thought there may be a better chance of getting hold of it early but then I suppose Rockstar are aware of the piracy on the 360 and will probably hold off sending it to retail till the last minute.

They can only hold off for so long though mate can't they lol. The logistics would be a nightmare for them if they decided to just simply hold off and to be fair you can bet that some of the scene releases actually come from sources at the firms that actually print the discs. My bets are that we'll see this atleast a week before the stores do

Team Deathmatch: A straight-up shootout (and presumably hitandrunout) where the team with the most cash at the end of the round wins. For between two and eight teams.

Team Mafiya Work: Each team is carrying out contract work for the mob - escorting wanted men, boosting cars, picking up MacGuffins, and the idea is to amass the most cash from completed contracts. Again for 2-8 teams.

Team Car Jack City: Cars spawn around the city and have to be picked up and taken to a drop-off. Again, the most money wins, but you can boost your total by finding cars with drugs stashed in them. 2-8 teams.

Cops n' Crooks: In this one, one team plays as Cops and the other team as Crooks. The Crooks are out to escape from the Cops - in the sub-mode All For One, their job is to escort their Boss to safety, while in One For All they need to gather themselves into a getaway vehicle. The Cops are out to kill the Crooks or disable their getaway vehicle. We also recall that the Cops spawn in cars while the Crooks don't. This is for two teams only, for obvious reasons.

Turf War: Capture-the-base, effectively, where you try and take over different areas of the map by standing on them and looking hard. The more team-mates you share a capture point with, the harder you look, the faster it becomes yours. If an enemy is nearby, capture is impossible. Like Cops n' Crooks, this is for two teams.

Race: As the name suggests, this is a race between checkpoints. You can either race point-to-point (Free Race) or complete checkpoints in any order (Cannonball Run).

GTA Race: Finally, this one is like Race, except you can use weapons to mess your fellow racers up.

Awww mate... I just got my hands on this unavailable game and the online play is absolutely fookin' awesome... if I was banned I'd try and get another console just for the online gameplay alone... I've never experienced ANYTHING like it mate... seriously mate... you just gotta see the online features... absolutely stunning... I was able to snort cocaine off an online females breasts mate whilst I was masturbating... Fookin' awesome experience.. it really was cyber sex to be honest... I'm gutted you're missing out on all the fun
