Just thought I would keep you all up to date on digital progress here on the emerald isle.

DAB Digital Radio:

On January 1st the first DAB tests since 2001 started on VHF Band III from Claremont Carn (Co.Louth near the NI border) and from Three Rock mountain (Dublin)
Claremont Carn has been on since the beginning carrying the four national services (RTE1, 2fm, RnaG and Lyric fm) aswell as National Independent Broadcaster 'Today fm'.WRN (world radio network) is being transmitted with no audio. The power is supposedly at a max of 10kw with varying levels from time to time. The bitrate is 192kbps for all services although that is also expected the be varied throughout the tests. The service from Three Rock mountain is mirroring that of Claremont Carn and they are both broadcasting on channel 12C.The tests are expected to continue until March.

Digital Terrestrial Television

Not much is known about the future of DTT over here.It is however expected that DTT tests will take place from Claremont Carn and Three Rock Mountain in March once the DAB tests have finished. Not much else is known except it is expected that we will use a different DTT standard than the UK making it pretty useless to all of us Border Freeviewers.

I will post more information as it happens.........but then again with RTE thats always a long time away;)
