I used to be of the same opinion when I lived in Yorkshire, didn't seen
to matter who got in, they're all basically the same.

It's different now, up here it's important to have an MP who will
actually represent us in Parliament. I vote for the person not the
party now, I will vote for the person who I think will fight hardest
for the county and I don't give a shit which party they belong to just
so long as they get results.

The likes of James Cran might get away with it in Beverley and Holderness
but I doubt he'd get a single vote up here.

I do keep up with the news. The news is that America is keeping
innocent kids in cages and chaining them to the floor while torturing
them.

Haven't you seen the headlines?

That sounds a lot like a rapist saying he was justified in malesting
a girl because she was ugly and would probably never have got laid if
it wern't for him.

This is totally untrue, They have now been returned home.
The boy did not mention chains, in the middle east you do not keep a guest
in chains. There is a classic translation problem here "guest" is a lot
stronger word than in English.

Or, even if one was treated OK, it's like saying one black person
hasn't been attacked, so no black people are ever attacked...

I agree there's always a dichotomy about whether to vote for the
person or the party. We currently have a Labour MP and he's been
reasonable and helpful - even wrote to me and apologised for voting
for the war on Iraq as he realises now that he was wrong. Don't get
many MPs admitting that.

However I still couldn't vote for him.

That's not what the five Britons who were kidnapped and held in cages,
without legal representation, without being charged with any offence,
for over two years at Guantanamo Bay are saying. They are talking about
being chained to the floor and beaten.

If the prisoners there were all white and the guards all Moslem I bet
you woudn't be defending them.
