The PlayStation Network and Qriocity Services have been restored across Asia, Sony has announced.

The platform was restored in countries including Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand with increased security measures yesterday.

In addition to the new safeguards, the platform holder has appointed a chief information security officer at Sony Network Entertainment inc, charged with reinforcing security across the firm's infrastructure, Examiner reports.

Sony president Kaz Harai said: "I'd also like to send my sincere regret to customers in Japan and Asian countries and regions for the inconvenience these events have caused you. We are taking aggressive action including increasing security measures and working with respective authorities to address the concerns that were raised by this incident.

"We are making consumer data protection a full-time, company wide commitment so that our customers can rest assured about enjoying their entertainment."

PSN functionality was partially restored in Europe and North America on May 15. The PlayStation Store is expected to return at the end of the month.
