Netflix is considering charging $2.99 per additional home to curb password-sharing

Netflix has started testing a modified subscription model in five Latin America countries which will force consumers to set one residence as their "home". If they watch Netflix on a TV in any other location for more than two weeks, they will be asked to pay an additional $2.99/month for that "home".
And if you're worried about watching Netflix while traveling, you should know that the new password sharing rules only apply to TV screens.

Netflix lost almost 1m subscribers between April and July, as the number of people quitting the service accelerated.

But that was not as many as the streaming giant had feared.

Asked what may have stopped subscriptions sliding further, the firm's chief executive, Reed Hastings, said: "If there was a single thing, we might say 'Stranger Things.'"

The new season of the hit drama has been a phenomenal success, and may have helped stem the exodus of Netflix customers.

The company reported its first subscriber loss since 2011 in April, news that was followed by hundreds of job cuts and a sharp drop in its share price.

The subscriber losses reported on Tuesday were the biggest in the firm's history, with the US and Canada home to the highest number of cancellations in the quarter, followed by Europe.

Netflix has confirmed that it won’t offer a subscription that will serve ads to paying subscribers this year. The company indicated that it has delayed the deployment of the ad-supported subscription tier.

I had heard Netflix expected 2 million losses in subscribers so they maybe happy with just 1 million but their share price is still well down.
