A Red Tibetan Mastiff has been named the world's most expensive dog after being bought for ten million Chinese yuan (£950,000).

According to the The Daily Telegraph, breeder Lu Liang said that the price for the dog, named Big Splash or Hong Dong in Chinese, was fair because of the expense of raising him.

Lu, of the Tibetan Mastiff Garden in Laoshan, near Qingdao, said: "We have spent a lot of money raising this dog, and we have the salaries of plenty of staff to pay.

"'He is a perfect specimen. He has excellent genes and will be a good breeding dog. When I started in this business, ten years ago, I never thought we would see such a price."

At 11 months old, Big Splash is reportedly 3ft tall and weighs more than 180lbs.

Big Splash reportedly replaces another Tibetan Mastiff named Red Lion, who was valued at £915,000 last year, as the world's most expensive dog.
