More copies of DVD screeners have appeared online despite heightened anti-piracy measures, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said today

'Screeners' are copies of films which are sent to awards voters to help them make their decision, often ones which are still on theatrical release. Last year the Motion Picture Association of America banned the distribution of screeners after the movies made their way onto the internet. Complaints from filmmakers, producers and independent production companies forced the organisation to partially lift the ban for Oscars voters.

It is now likely that the ban will be reinstated, however, after copies of Tom Cruise's The Last Samurai and Jack Nicholson's Something's Gotta Give made their way onto the net.

The academy said that although a copies of the film had been identified, they had yet to track down a source.
