I was given a works laptop with an XP install on it recently.

I removed the battery a few days ago & found a Product Key sticker for Win7

They tell me the ones on display in comet have them stickers as well

Doesn't always work though, sometimes (not always) you still need to add the BIOS fakery thing to continue.

I've also heard that some unscrupulous people have been known to search the Google images interwebs for screengrabs of programs like Belarc Adviser & such to get the Product Key from there as well.

This used to be a good on to use on Google Images.

Indeed, back in the day we didnt bother about software. Me and the mates used to trawl the net for hardware serials.. Give MS(example) a call.. tell them its gone faulty and a new one would arrive in the post..

I think if anyone wants to trawl google a good place to start would be a search term in images.
