CD & DVD losing data on a cd-r

i once had a cd-r with data on ,about 500meg worth,but 1 night while on the beer decided to write with new data to the above disc not realising it contained all my precious data.....and now when i read the disc it says 2 mb instead of 500 odd.is there any way of recovering the original data,come on the m8s out there ,im gutted losing all my vital stuff

It sounds like you have not finalised the disk. You have used the multisession function.
If you used Nero for the writing then choose Continue Multisession. Untick Replace files in Compilation. Try adding another file then burn to disk. This time when you burn choose Finalise CD. This may or may not give you access to your previous sessions so salvage off it what you can first.

Data recovery might be possible using something like WinHex, I think it has capabilities for that sort of thing. Someone who knows a little more about it perhaps.
