Former Derby County, Oxford United and Portsmouth boss Jim Smith has died at the age of 79

RIP Jim and condolences to all your family. Jim managed Newcastle United for almost 3 years, following relegation in his first year and losing out an immediate return by losing 2-0 in the play offs against the Mackems, he did not stay long in the following season. When he left, one of the reasons was the Boardroom squabbles with Freddie Sheppard and Douglas Hall making disparaging remarks about the supporters.
Jim was intelligent, passionate, determined, honest and always great fun to be with. Never one to mince his words, he was a leader in the truest sense. Jim was liked and admired by everyone who really knew him one would say an authentic, down-to-earth gentleman."
