...if your SATA drive croaks you may have a poor connection between the on-board controller and the drive internals. Remove the drive and, using a small torx driver, remove the on-board controller.

Check for damaged connections - the board has spring-loaded connectors in two locations. Clean off with a cotton-bud and a spot of iso-prop and replace the board.

If the drive recovers get a backup fast - this is a 'fudge' it will probs fail again but you might just get enough time to get your precious data.

Replace the drive :)
