....2 Gig.....or 4 hours on COD on PS3 !!

wow, any game that needs 500Meg data an hour (over 1Mbit/sec bandwidth) is seriously borked !!!

over exaggeration by me ...
but just sayin , after i been throttled by VM , i get lag lag lag on every game i play that night .

edit ..could maybe be something wrong on my end ? sick of ringing them to be honest !

Re: It seems to be official : further traffic shaping from virgin anything P2P (usene

no it does not work...u still get throttled after 9..its a load of lies .

There are two type of cap/throttling going on.

You mentioned that the speed reduction lasting until after might so I assume you meant about download cap, not QoS.

If you are talking about QoS, that lasts from 17:00 to 0:00.

There have been many complaints of slow ping times (which is more important for games rather then bandwidth I believe). Seems to be region related rather then a national issue though that does not help you.

QoS is there to help time sensitive applications like games, it was mentioned specifically in their press release. Of course they could have screwed up the implementation and are throttling that as well but if that is the case then hopefully should be fixed soon.

Re: It seems to be official : further traffic shaping from virgin anything P2P (usene

It's quite easy to get you full speed. Just schedule your download for overnight, both Newsleecher and SABnzb have the facility for scheduling. And as stated previously you can easily get 100-300gb PER NIGHT.

Midnight to 9am = full speed.

Everyone seems to be bitching about Virgin, but they are STILL the only service where you can get full speed at least for some of the time. ADSL is shit.

If you simply have to download at peak time because what you are downloading is SO time critical that you simply CAN'T wait, then put up with the throttling, cos god know we all know about it by now, and stop moaning.

Re: It seems to be official : further traffic shaping from virgin anything P2P (usene

And after midnight when the traffic shaping is due to end ?

Your only supposed to be shaped if you hit a certain limit though that's the point! I had downloaded nothing and only just set it going.

if i had my pc on OVERNIGHT , as well as when i am home from work my wife wud have my balls on a platter !

"and stop moaning"

i dont recall forcing u to read my comments.......or is moaning against DW rules all of a sudden ?

Re: It seems to be official : further traffic shaping from virgin anything P2P (usene

just a quick question here, my son says if i leave my pc on but switch the monitor off i use much less energy cos it's the monitor that uses most of the energy, is that correct?

@chris, moan away ;)

Re: It seems to be official : further traffic shaping from virgin anything P2P (usene

people need to calm down, i can fully understand where your coming from chris, some people seem to see it as an insult when you complain lol.

anyway, i still dont agree with it, regardless of what is on newsgroups is no excuse, the internets full of porn but i dont view it. If i want to dopwnload something , whatever it is from newsgroups, i`m going to be throttled, wether ive downloaded feck all, all day, simple as that, unless of course i do it at midnight.

i simply see it as they are chipping away at your connection in total.

and for the good of the majority? what a load of shite, remodel your package plan and penalise high downloaders more (individually), this is the same excuse used by insurance companys (false claims push your premiums up, twoddle if there where less false claims do you think your insurance would actually go down?), and whilst there at it, lets ban the word "unlimited" from being used in the sale of any broadband service at all, as its blatant false advertising.

as people say, virgin is the best broadband by far, but it still annoyes me, can i do anything about it, no, will they? no.

anyway rant other.

Re: It seems to be official : further traffic shaping from virgin anything P2P (usene

It makes me laugh, we pay for a premium service, but when we don't recieve what we pay for we are not aloud to moan?

So what i should do is not download on my super fast broadband and then it wont get capped. Well then why is adsl so shit? when lets face it a 2mb connection is more than enough for web browsing.

Im happy to download after 9pm but i was capped last night at 11:45pm with no amount of downloading in 2 days well maybe a a few mb.

Tell me what is the point in 50mb or 100mb speeds if you are going to be penalised for using it for anything other than light downloading or web browsing??

Depends on the type of monitor and PC you have but a 17" draws about 100w of power. A desktop at idle could be anything from 50watts to 200 watts depending on the specification.

Nope, usenet/p2p shaping is for the network as a whole, not you. This applies between 17:00 and 00:00

Download caps are specific to you. There are no caps on 50mb, 20mb ad 10mb have different caps applying from 9am to 3pm and 4pm to 9pm.

Read my other post regarding download caps and QoS and times.

You are free to do all the downloading you want off peak.

exactly !!
not only cant we download our fave programmes after work..
but we are expected to spend MORE money on electric by leavin our pc on overnight because of the fear of being throttled , by downloading in "peak times" .
Its a SHIT service and we DO NOT get what we pay for ..which is UNLIMITED 20M bb .

only if you hit a certain limit during certain points of the day. if you're getting throttled for "nothing" - then there's something wrong. maybe your MAC is being cloned? wireless signal stolen? fault on the line? you've pissed off an operator with your "I DEMAND THIS" attitude - could be any number of things.

(false claims push your premiums up, twoddle if there where less false claims do you think your insurance would actually go down.

no, i don't. it's inflation. However, it might increase at a slower rate?

lets ban the word "unlimited" from being used in the sale of any broadband service at all, as its blatant false advertising.

I think there's probably cause for this, or atleast make things clearer - mainly to stop pedantic people nitpicking every slight issue and making it into massive problems. i think common sense should rule and don't take things at face value and if i abused anything too much (BB, alcohol, cracking one off, etc) i'd expect some sort comeback for my actions.

however, if we didn't have something to moan about - we wouldn't be british. now, where's my safety smiley so i don't upset anyone.... ;)

Re: It seems to be official : further traffic shaping from virgin anything P2P (usene

Well then why is adsl so shit?

Same reasons the trains are so shit. under funded, outdated and badly maintained network with zero consistency across the board, that they are now trying to patch together and catch up with customers needs.

My desktop eats far more power than my monitor. Laptops might be different though as they use lower powered compoments.

my desktop also uses shitloads of power , gaming system .
however laptops aint designed to be left on all night not unless u want them to last longer than 12 months anyway .
i use laptop for work everyday , i go through them around every 2 years or so .
