Is the hard drive region free?

Does anyone know if I can I buy a ntsc hard drive then fit it to my pal 360?
The reason I ask is for the price of the drive over here you can order the hard drive, a wireless controller and a crome drive bezel.

edit: not so good after shipping but still cheaper than over here

So if the drives are region free, it is impossible to brick a 360 using the firmware hack because you can always replace the DVD-Rom drive if things go pear shaped flashing it?

No because your firmware contains a unique key which matches the one in your xbox. If you loose this key your stuffed as theres no way of retrieving it.
If you bought a new drive youd still have to flash it with your key before it would work.

also its easy to brick your 360,but if you had you key,its relativly easy to sort your machine
