i love watching the stars

i have binoculars

should i buy a telescope??

You'd get better results from a telescope and especially if you are in a low light pollution and low photochemical smog area.

With a telescope like that you can travel to the few dark spots left in the UK and really get down to business. There are only a few truly dark sky spots left in the UK. See here

It's always something I have wanted to do, but where I live to the south there is woods, and to the north a big light polluting town.
So unfortunately it's useless to me.

I do have an app for my phone that lets me know what each star is though using AR.

I enjoyed watching the star gazing live show the BBC commissioned though.

The app on my android phone is as close as I get to stargazing and planet watching. The app also shows the constellation names. Comes in handy when I cycle to work in the mornings and wonder what planets are on show.

Had a shot of my Father-in-laws telescope in the back garden and even then with the light polution it was worth while - Jaw dropping the amount you can still see but yeah dark sky areas would be a whole different level.
