Ok, thought I'd start this thread in answer to Digidude, but also because it is a topic on its own which people may want to put their own views.

The Sat system that is available in the usa uses security provided by NDS and works the same as ours (kind of) yet it has been hacked so much that there is a new generation of security released by NDS. Why can they do it and we cant?

There are many reasons, and some of the others members and mods here may know them. I dont have time just now, so please post suggestions on here and I'll be back l8r.

All I konw is the system is called DSS and its been cracked, if you search yahoo etc for satellite hacks thats the majority of the results you will get.

Hi, well you are right that the name of satellite ** there is DSS. It has cards and encryption security supplied by NDS who are the leading name in Satellite security. The digital system has existed there for about 10 years so they do have more experience than us.
The NDS security was originally hacked by finding 'holes' in the software that was written. This gave them the head start because as each hole was closed by NDS it gave more info in the logs that could be used for a new hack. So our search here is now for our own software flaws. But the public holes available for dss system definately do not exist on our cards.
Now there is another way that the dss sys become hacked to bits. This is with 'glitching'. Basically breaking the card electronically so it dont work, then fixing it with your own coding. As yet there is no public success with this method here.
You can learn loads from there history of hacking but unfortunately it still does not give us a hack here. Many reasons but some basics are i) our instruction set is different, ii)coding is in different order and places on cards, iii)our software has been written with EXTRA signature length (8 bytes instead of 5), iv)our tiers are in different areas of eeprom, v)our command structure is far bigger and more complex since our cards have twice the storage capacity, vi)there has been no update of the command structure on our cards for at least 2 years and probably more.
There are probably other reasons why we haven't caught them up and one arguement has got to be that we are too secretive and no-one shares info over here!
Hope my waffle is a help?

Ok, now I'm totaly lost. But what if I could get a card that was brand new, never been activated. Would this be of any help? You could set up some sort of equipment (probably) to see what the card/box is sending/recieving whilst you activate the card for the first time?

Well first of all, sorry if somethings are too technical. All I'm tryin to do is explain and help everyone learn at their own pace. I am here for your questions and will try to answer if anything isn't understood. Its not gaining free t\/ but the knowledge may help us in the near future.
It is really simple to log an initial activation of a new card and it has given lots of knowledge as this has already been done. You cannot use the same activation on a different card as each card is addressed individually when it is turned on. However, in theory, if you log your own card then you cancel your subs you could turn your card back on again
However, some other things change within a years subscription so there will probably be long term probs here. This is all about experimenting. Another experiment could be to log the monthly updates throughout the year and send them to the card to get it to confirm to the box its ok to view channels.
There may be loads of ideas out there but we gotta share some knowledge and experiment together to find some answers.
